Still missing venue details but likely to include Sydney and several in
North America.
I plan to attend- anyone else?

Well I attended my second world quiz champs on the weekend and thought I
would share my thoughts.
I really struggled with the format last time as it is so different to the
conventional, social quizzing I was used to. It's a written test of 240
questions over 2 hours (with a halftime break), and an individual rather
than team event. This time I practiced the format for several weeks
before (using some quizzes at http://kqaquizzes.org/quizzes/
Indian-centric to some extent but still very useful). My goals were to
improve on last year's score and break into the top 500 and I'm happy to
report I achieved both- more than doubling my score and making the top 350
(out of c. 1500).
I thought the questions were a bit easier than last year when they seemed
brutal to me, but that's obviously a subjective assessment. I also know
more that I did then, which helped too. I made a couple of howlers both
late in the second half, which suggests mental fatigue was probably an
issue. A reasonable number of my guesses came off which was nice. While
there were only two howlers I could have done better and can fairly easily
get another 15 or 20 which will put me into the top 200. So I can't wait
for next year :-)
A chap called Steve Perry came eighth but I don't think anyone here knows
him.
