These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2011-02-14,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days. For further information see
my 2011-05-23 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI5GNM, QFTCI11, QFTCIMM)".

I wrote both of these rounds.

* Game 5, Round 2 - We're #2

Round 2 of this game is "We're #2". On each question we will name a
city, and you must simply tell us where the world's *second-largest*
city of that name is. In all cases we are referring to the usual
names of the cities as written in English without accent marks,
so if we asked for "Munich", the largest one would be in Germany.
In all cases we are using the city-proper population, not the
metropolitan area population, if it ever makes a difference.
http://www.citypopulation.de is the source we used for all
population data.

So, to repeat, on each question tell us where to find the world's
second-largest city with the name we give. You must name the
Canadian *province*, or the US *state*, or the *country* elsewhere,
as applicable. For example, we say London, you say Ontario.

1. Manchester.
2. Toronto.
3. San Jose.
4. Tripoli.
5. St. Petersburg.
6. Kansas City.
7. Hamilton.
8. Los Angeles.
9. Birmingham.
10. Portland.

* Game 5, Round 3 - Multi-Series Regulars

The Internet Movie Database, or IMDB, lists more than 600 actors
and actresses who have each appeared in 60 or more episodes of
each of 3 or more different TV series. But we're only going to
ask you about 10 of them.

In each case, we will name 3 or 4 TV series in chronological
order of their debut, and you must name the actor or actress
who regularly appeared in each one of those series for at least
60 episodes of its run -- in most cases they were on the show's
entire run. For example, if we said "I Love Lucy", "The Lucy Show",
and "Here's Lucy", you would say Lucille Ball. However, the roles
in the actual questions will *not necessarily* be leading ones.

Some series will be mentioned more than once.

1. "McHale's Navy", "Mary Tyler Moore", "The Love Boat".

2. "Star Trek", "T.J. Hooker", "Boston Legal".

3. "Benson", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Boston Legal".

4. "My Favorite Martian", "The Courtship of Eddie's Father",
"The Incredible Hulk".

5. "Taxi", "Dear John", "Numb3rs" ("Numbers").

6. "Dynasty", "T.J. Hooker", "Melrose Place", "Spin City".

7. "Chicago Hope", "Dharma & Greg", "Criminal Minds".

8. "Bonanza", "Little House on the Prairie", "Highway to Heaven".

9. "The Big Valley", "The Six Million Dollar Man", "The
Fall Guy".

10. "Switch", "Cagney & Lacey", "Queer as Folk", "Burn Notice".

(In case anyone wonders how there can have been over 60 episodes
of "Burn Notice" already when it only started last year, it's
because it didn't -- it originated on American cable TV and we're
seeing it 3 years late.)

New Hampshire. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Dan Blum, Dan Tilque,
and Jeff.

For each question I'm showing the populations (according to the
most recent available census or estimate on the cited site, when
the round was written) for the top 3 cities with that name.

1. England, UK: 465,900 (2008)
2. New Hampshire: 109,279 (2009)
3. Missouri: 18,579 (2009)

> 2. Toronto.

Ohio.

1. Ontario: 2,503,281 (2006)
2. Ohio: 5,676 (2000)
3. Kansas: 312 (2000)

There is a Toronto in New South Wales, Australia -- see
http://www.toronto.com.au/index.php/About-our-Town/about-toronto.html
-- but as far as I can tell it's not incorporated and therefore has no
"city-proper population", and in any case is apparently smaller then
the one in Ohio. The place in Italy with a somewhat similar name,
as you should have recalled from Game 3, is Taranto.

> 3. San Jose.

Costa Rica. 4 for Peter, Marc, Dan Blum, Calvin, Dan Tilque,
and Stephen. 3 for Joshua. 2 for Erland.

1. California: 964,695 (2009)
2. Costa Rica: 356,174 (2009)
3. Philippines: 71,270 (2007)

> 4. Tripoli.

Lebanon. 4 for Joshua, Marc, Dan Tilque, and Stephen.

1. Libya: 591,062 (1984)
2. Lebanon: 157,320 (1970)
3. Greece: 25,520 (2001)

> 5. St. Petersburg.

Florida. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Dan Blum, Erland, Dan Tilque,
and Jeff. 3 for Stephen.

1. Russia: 4,600,276 (2010)
2. Florida: 244,324 (2009)
3. Pennsylvania: 386 (2009)

> 6. Kansas City.

Kansas. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Dan Blum, Erland, Dan Tilque,
Stephen, and Jeff.

1. Missouri: 482,299 (2009)
2. Kansas: 143,209 (2009)

This is, of course, the only case in the round where both cities
are parts of the same metropolitan area.

> 7. Hamilton.

New Zealand. 4 for Peter, Calvin, Dan Tilque, and Rob.

1. Ontario: 504,559 (2006)
2. New Zealand: 129,249 (2006)
3. Ohio: 60,690 (2000)

The one in Bermuda is much smaller.

> 8. Los Angeles.

Chile.

1. California: 3,831,868 (2009)
2. Chile: 117,972 (2002)

> 9. Birmingham.

Alabama. 4 for Joshua, Peter, Marc, Dan Blum, Calvin, Dan Tilque,
Rob, and Jeff.

1. England, UK: 1,010,400 (2008)
2. Alabama: 230,131 (2009)
3. Michigan: 19,018 (2009)

> 10. Portland.

Maine. 4 for Joshua, Marc, Erland, Dan Tilque, and Jeff.
3 for Stephen. 2 for Dan Blum.

1. Oregon: 566,143 (2009)
2. Maine: 63,008 (2009)
3. Texas: 16,450 (2009).

The one in England is a landform, not a city.

The two in Australia that I could find on citypopulation.de are both listed
as Urban centres and have a smaller population than the place in Texas.
