These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2019-09-16,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers to the newsgroup in a single followup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of the Red Smarties and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information see
my recent companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 1, Round 4 - Entertainment - Celebrities who Converted to Islam

We give you a few clues about the celebrity and you name them.

1. An Irish singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1980s,
had previously been ordained a priest despite having strong
views against certain religious leadership. Converted to islam
in 2018 and has posted several videos on social media about
her conversion.

2. This retired boxer continues to have the public ear. He ranks
as one of the best athletes in his class, and converted to
Islam in the mid-1990s when he was serving time in prison in
conjunction with a rape conviction.

3. This actor and comedian starred in an eponymous sketch-comedy
show in the early 2000s before giving it all up just a few
years later. He made a slow-burn comeback in the mid 2010s
with a slew of Netflix stand-up specials, "Sticks & Stones"
being the most recent. He converted to islam in 1998 but rarely
speaks about his faith publicly.

4. A record 6-time NBA MVP, 19-time NBA All-Star, 15-time All-NBA
selection, and an 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member; also
member of 6 NBA championship teams as a player and two more as
an assistant coach. Born Ferdinand Alcindor Jr., he converted
to Islam in the late 1960s. What is his name now?

5. American rapper, record producer, filmmaker, and actor. He made
his career as a member of NWA, before seeing wide success as
a solo artist. Converted to Islam in the mid-1990s, but has
publicly made inconsistent remarks as to how dedicated he is
to his faith. What is his stage name?

6. American vocalist, bass player, record producer, "Celebrity
Big Brother UK" contestant, and actual big brother. This singer
converted to islam in 1989 after touring the Middle East with
his superstar-fronted pop group.

7. American singer/rapper/songwriter known for his solo hit
"What It's Like" and as frontman for the rap group House of Pain.
He also won a Grammy for his performance with Carlos Santana
on "Put Your Lights On". Converted to Islam from Catholicism
in 1996. What is his stage name?

8. American rapper and D.J. who achieved success as a member of
hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, and later as a solo artist.
Converted to Islam in 1995. He's also known as "The Abstract"
or "The Lone Ranger", but what is his other stage name?

9. Steven Demetre Georgiou rose to fame as a folk singer in the
1960s and '70s; he famously renounced his music career when
he converted to Islam in 1976 after nearly drowning in the
Pacific Ocean. How is he known today?

10. Malcolm X, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, converted
to Islam while serving time in prison as a young man. What was
his birth name (first and last name please)?

* Game 1, Round 6 - Art - Art Vandalism

Please see the handout: http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/1-6/vandal.pdf

There are no decoys here, and the 10 questions are in order of the
11 pictures (or at least in order of the *letters* -- note that G
is *below* F, not to the right of it). Except as indicated, name
the artist who created each work here seen vandalized.

1. Picture A shows a sculpture that was permanently damaged by a
bomb outside the Cleveland Museum of Art. Name the sculptor.

2. Painting B was defaced with spray paint as an act of protest
against the Vietnam War. Give the *title* of the painting.

3. Picture C -- "Portrait of the Virgin and Child with St. Anne
and John the Baptist" -- was shot with a rifle as an act of
social protest.

4. The "Rokeby Venus", painting D, was hit with a meat cleaver in
1919 by a militant suffragette.

5. Picture I, a portrait of the Habsburg Archduke Albert of
Austria, was permanently defaced with sulfuric acid. Name the
Flemish master who painted it in 1610.

6. Painting F, "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow & Blue 3", was
slashed with a box-cutter. After serving his prison sentence,
the perpetrator went out and cut up painting G, "Cathedra".
Name the artist who painted both works.

7. Painting H, "Composition with Red and Blue", was deliberately
vomited on by an OCAD student in 1996.

8. Painting I, "Black on Maroon", was signed with a permanent
marker. by a Tate museum visitor. This one is shown after
restoration.

9. Painting J, "White Cross on Gray (Suprematisme)" had a dollar
sign added by a Russian performance artist as an "act of
dialogue" with its creator.

10. A National Gallery visitor attempted to cover nude figures
in picture K, "Adoration of the Golden Calf", with spray paint.
Name the 17th-century painter.
