These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2015-04-27,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Five Guys Named Moe, and
are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information
see my 2015-08-18 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 2, Round 2 - Sports - Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather

Let's get ready to rumble! This Saturday, two of the best
pound-for-pound boxers in the world will face each other for the
first time in their storied careers. Here are 10 questions on
the fight and the fighters.

1. Negotiations for a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather
originally took place in 2009 but were scuttled because of a
disagreement over what?

2. After Mayweather proposed the 2015-05-02 fight to Pacquiao,
the two met and exchanged phone numbers -- at a home game for
which NBA team?

3. What weight class will the fight be fought in?

4. Which Las Vegas hotel will host the fight?

5. In addition to "Ring" magazine's <answer 3> title, titles from
three of boxing's sanctioning organizations will be on the line.
Name any of those three bodies -- the acronyms will do.

6. Pacquiao and Mayweather are contracted to different US pay
cable networks which have partnered to broadcast the fight.
Name either of the pay cable networks.

7. The fight will be available through pay-per-view. The two cable
networks broadcasting the fight have set a suggested retail
price that will make it the most expensive pay-per-view boxing
event ever. To the nearest whole dollar and within $10, what
is the suggested retail price in US dollars?

8. Boxers often have many nicknames. Mayweather is known as
"Pretty Boy", "TBE" ("The Best Ever"), and "Money". Pacquiao
also has quite a few nicknames. Name any.

Pacquiao and Mayweather have had many common opponents over the
years. For the last two questions, we are looking for the name
of the boxer described in the question.

9. Nicknamed "Sugar", this retired American boxer was named "Ring"
magazine's best pound-for-pound fighter in 2000 and 2001.
He lost unanimous decisions to Mayweather in 2010 and Pacquiao
in 2011. Name him.

10. This Mexican-American boxer was "Ring" magazine's Fighter of
the Year in 1995, and their top-rated pound-for-pound fighter in
the world in 1997 and 1998. In 2007 he lost a split decision to
Mayweather, and in 2008 Pacquiao defeated him by TKO. Name him.

* Game 2, Round 3 - Canadiana - Discover Canada

Canada has one of the highest immigration rates per capita in the
world, averaging more than 250,000 per year. Thousands become
Canadian citizens every year after taking the citizenship test.
Here are 10 questions taken from the citizenship-test study guide,
"Discover Canada".

*Note that only the answers given in this document will be
acceptable!*

1. Name the only officially bilingual province in Canada.

2. In 1813, this pioneer woman made a dangerous 19-mile (30 km)
journey on foot to warn Lt. James FitzGibbon of a planned
American attack. Her bravery contributed to victory at the
Battle of Beaver Dams. Name her.

3. Which African city was established for freed slaves by black
Nova Scotian Loyalists in 1792?

4. In 1916, which was the first province to grant voting rights
to women?

5. Who was the founder of women's suffrage movement as well as
the first woman to practice medicine in Canada?

6. In 1921, who became Canada's first woman Member of Parliament?

7. Give *either* name of the army raised by Canada to fight in
the First World War.

> 3. What weight class will the fight be fought in?

Welterweight. 4 for Dan Tilque, Gareth, and Pete.

> 4. Which Las Vegas hotel will host the fight?

(the hard way) and Pete. 2 for Joshua.

> 8. Boxers often have many nicknames. Mayweather is known as
> "Pretty Boy", "TBE" ("The Best Ever"), and "Money". Pacquiao

Pac-Man; Ang Pambansang Kamao (The Nation's Fist); The Mexicutioner;
The Destroyer; Fighting Pride of the Philippines; Pambansang Ninong
(National Godfather); The Fighting Congressman; The Filipino Slugger.
But as Gareth also pointed out along with giving one of those answers,
"Manny" is itself a nickname (for "Emmanuel")! 4 for Gareth, anyway.

See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/pub/discover.pdf

> *Note that only the answers given in this document will be

The last sentence was not present in the preamble of the original
game, but I added it in order to make question and answer 10
acceptable.

> 1. Name the only officially bilingual province in Canada.

New Brunswick. 4 for Joshua, Dan Blum, and Björn.

> 2. In 1813, this pioneer woman made a dangerous 19-mile (30 km)

Laura Secord. 4 for Dan Blum.

> 3. Which African city was established for freed slaves by black

Freetown (Sierra Leone). 4 for Dan Tilque, Dan Blum, Björn, and Pete.

> 4. In 1916, which was the first province to grant voting rights

Manitoba. 3 for Dan Blum and Marc.

> 5. Who was the founder of women's suffrage movement as well as
> the first woman to practice medicine in Canada?

Dr. Emily Stowe.

> 6. In 1921, who became Canada's first woman Member of Parliament?

Agnes Macphail.

> 7. Give *either* name of the army raised by Canada to fight in
> the First World War.

Canadian Expeditionary Force, Canadian Corps. One of the complete
names was required. 4 for Dan Tilque and Dan Blum.

> 8. In 1847-48, what was the first British North American colony
> to attain full responsible government?

Nova Scotia. 4 for Dan Tilque. 2 for Dan Blum.

> 9. In 1849, who became the first head of a responsible government
> in the Province of Canada?

Sir Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine.

He was joint premier with Robert Baldwin, but "Discover Canada"
mentions Baldwin only as another of the politicians who worked to
establish responsible government, so only the answer La Fontaine is
acceptable. Baldwin was accepted on protest in the original game,
but as noted above, its preamble did not include the note limiting
answers to those in that document.

> 10. On 1867-07-01, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia
> together formed a new country. Name this country formed under
> the British North America Act.

Dominion of Canada. The full phrase was required. 4 for Joshua,
Dan Tilque, Gareth, and Marc.

As I explained in connection with Rotating Quiz 179, the actual
correct answer is just "Canada"; the author of the guide is evidently
living in one of those previous decades when people acted as if that
was just a short form of a supposed full name "Dominion of Canada".

Scores, if there are no errors:
