Not really "created"; more like "popularized" when other versions were
previously in use. Coca-Cola.

They won at all? As I read in the papers over here, the Sabres is by
far currently the worst team in the NHL.

I am aware of the article at http://www.snopes.com/ and its sources.
that's why I changed the question to say "american" as a qualifier and
put "traditional" in quotes.

Yes, but the part that's being disputed is the "was created by artist
Haddon Sundblom".

syracuse, villanova, wisconsin, ohio state, iowa state, toledo, wichita state,
arizona, oregon, ... there may be others I have missed, so I will only look up
those that are actually answered. [there were a lot this year. take from that
what you will]

the puck went into the air, landed on the goalie's back, slid down into his
pants, and then into the net while still inside the goalie's pants as he
backed into the net looking around for the puck. this is surely the singular
most embarrassing own-goal of all time.

I was somewhat generous in the scoring, and PETE has overcome the odds to win the final RQ of 2013. Congratulations Pete!! Your prize is to host the next rotating quiz, the first of 2014, in a manner of your own choosing.

I don't think "own goal" was sufficiently specific, if:

But I'm surprised that the goal was allowed. Admittedly this isn't
exactly the situation envisioned in rule 85.3, but I would've expected
it to be treated the same.

Well, "own goal" is certainly more specific than my answer "They won at
all?" - and which was awarded a point. I am certainly not going to fight
for that point.

Certainly a hilarous goal and the goal keeper must have felt really silly
after that. Hadn't Stephen said that it was the Coyotes, I would have
placed my bets on Vancouver, given the name of their second-keeper,
Eddie Lck. (His last name translates as "leak".)

I was surprised that it was allowed as well, but the ref behind the net
apparently knew where the puck was at all times. And I did say I was being
generous with the scoring, from which both Erland and yourself benefited.
