These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2015-01-12,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of MI5, and are used here by
permission, but have been reformatted and may have been retyped
and/or edited by me. For further information see my 2015-02-23
companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian Inquisition
(QFTCI*)".

* Game 1, Round 7 - Entertainment - Christmas Movies

Remember Christmas? And all those movies you've seen 20 times?
Well, let's see if you do.

1. Different cast members of this movie later went on to play
a zombie-fighting police officer, a hobbit, the author of
"Mary Poppins", and Severus Snape. What movie is this?

2. In "A Christmas Story," Ralphie wants only one thing for
Christmas, but his mother, his teacher, and even a department
store Santa warn him, "You'll shoot your eye out". Name the
item he wants, including its brand name.

3. Who played "Bad Santa" in the movie of the same name? He had
a real-life meltdown with Jian Ghomeshi and a real-life marriage
to a sexy humanitarian.

4. This 1974 Canadian horror movie, considered to be one of the
first slasher films, follows a group of sorority sisters who
are stalked and murdered over the holidays by a killer hiding
in their house. Name it.

5. What classic Christmas song did Judy Garland sing in the 1944
MGM musical "Meet Me in St. Louis"?

6. Adam Sandler parlayed the popularity of Saturday Night Live's
"The Hanukkah Song" into which 2002 adult animated musical
comedy?

7. In "Home Alone", the McAllister family inadvertently leave
son Kevin behind when they head off to Paris for their Christmas
vacation. What Canadian played Kevin's frazzled and forgetful
mother?

8. Who directed the 1946 classic "It's a Wonderful Life"?

9. Lots of actors have played Scrooge on film. Which Cockney star
played him in "The Muppet Christmas Carol"?

10. A gadget salesman finds a special Christmas gift for his son at
a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper warns him never to get
it wet, expose it to bright light, or feed it after midnight.
All these rules are broken and Christmas Eve mayhem ensues.
Name the movie.

* Game 1, Round 8 - History - Quotes from 2014

Recent history, that is. These questions are about widely reported
quotes from 2014.

1. The CEO of *which company* stated in 2014, "Let me be clear.
I'm proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest
gifts God has given me"?

2. What scientist clarified what he wrote earlier in a best-selling
book: "What I meant by 'We would know the mind of God' is, we
would know everything that God would know, if there were a God.
Which there isn't. I'm an atheist"?

3. What actress stated, after hackers accessed her personal images
via the Cloud: "It's not a scandal, it's a sex crime"?

4. What actor, in a much-praised TV performance as gifted but
deeply troubled homicide detective Rust Cohle, stated:
"Time is a flat circle"?

5. Who said: "We have always conducted our relationship privately,
and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent,
we will be able to continue in the same manner"?

6. In an infamously mangled Oscars introduction for a Best Song
performance, what actor said: "Please welcome, the wickedly
talented, the one and only, Adele Dazeem"?

7. What Toronto Maple Leaf said this about Nelson Mandela:
"He is one of the most known athletes in the world and had a
lot of impact in any kind of sport that he did, from being
the type of person he was, off the ice and on the ice"?

8. Showing a self-deprecating sense of humor, what two words did
Rory McIlroy reply when asked what he would be if he hadn't
taken up professional golf?

9. In view of the release of a widely anticipated report on the
CIA's post-9/11 practices, who said: "We tortured some folks"?

10. On November 16, Stephen Harper said to Vladimir Putin: "I guess
I'll shake your hand, but I have only one thing to say to you."
What was that one thing? (Exact wording not required.)

I'm sure Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson have been in the same film,
but I cannot think of any that include any of the other characters.

You make light of a serious matter. My life has had few days
where I have not uttered the phrase "Marc with a C."

"Goonies" was stuck in my mind preventing me from getting
the correct answer.

"Mark with a K and Cathy with a C" here. And since my Cathy and
O'Hara went to high school together *and* use the same spelling,
when you get that one wrong it feels personal!

The Canadian Inquisition currently has 6 regular or occasional players
named Mark and one named Marc. I'm currently the person doing the
league statistics. The custom on our scoresheets is that players
are identified by team and first name or, if that's not unique on
the team, their last initial is added. Recently one scoresheet came
in where the QM had been given the names "Mark K. and Mark C." but
had written them as "Mark" and "Marc"!
