Incidentally, approximately this question was on "Jeopardy!" recently.
In fact it was the Final Jeopardy! question, on December 19. The
category was given as "International Motoring" and my guess was that
it was going to be about vehicular country codes.

Their version was a bit easier than Calvin's: they mentioned the UK and
asked for any one of the other three countries. Two of the three
contestants named Ireland, and the other guessed Poland.
