* Game 9, Round 6 - Geography - Islands of the World
In each case, provide the name of the island or islands.
1. These islands are off the west coast of Ireland and are one of
the few places left in Ireland where Irish Gaelic is still spoken
as a first language even by children. They're also the location
of John Millington Synge's great play "Riders to the Sea".
What are the islands called?
2. Shared by the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark, these islands
in the North Sea feature a language that has great affinities
to English, especially the Old and Middle varieties. Name the
islands.
3. A current British television crime drama based on a series
of novels by Ann Cleeves features a police detective inspector
named Jimmy Perez. The title of the series is the same as that
of this less-than-tropical island group. Name it.
4. In the movie "Chinatown", Jack Nicholson's private eye,
Jake Gittes, arrives on this island in front of its casino and
yacht club. Name the island.
5. The late Canadian author Austin Clarke was born on this Caribbean
island in 1934. Before moving to Toronto at the age of 21, he
grew up in its St. James region. What is the name of the island?
6. These Canadian islands form part of the name of the riding
whose MP is Green Party leader Elizabeth May. Name the islands.
7. These islands in the Indian Ocean are between Mozambique and
Madagascar. A French colony beginning in 1841 but now a
sovereign nation, the islands are the world's largest producer
of ylang-ylang, a perfume extracted from the flowers of the
cananga tree and an essential oil in aromatherapy.
8. Some politicians in France might have concerns about immigration,
but not so when it comes to its national soccer team. One of
France's top players, Dimitri Payet, was born and raised on
this island in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar and southwest
of Mauritius.
9. A self-governing region within the Kingdom of Denmark, these
islands are north of Scotland and located halfway between
Iceland and Norway. What are they called?
10. Although Switzerland is landlocked, it does have fresh-water
islands. One of these in Lake Geneva has the same name as
the famous castle on it, which was the subject of a poem by
Lord Byron. The castle was also one of the settings for Henry
James's novella "Daisy Miller", and served as a model for the
castle in Disney's animated film "The Little Mermaid". What is
the name of the island?

the next day by the Boston 'U' Party, where American rebels
yanked all the extraneous U's out of words like 'colour'
and threw them into Boston Harbour. Harbor. Whatever."
