These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2014-10-27,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Unnatural Axxxe, and are
used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may have
been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information see
my 2014-09-15 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

* Game 6, Round 2 - Science - Just Call Sol

A round on our solar system. Answers may repeat.

1. How many planets have rings?

2. Which is the only planet "tilted on its side" with relation to
the Sun?

3. Which planet has both the highest mountain and the deepest
valley of any in the Solar System?

4. Which planet has the shortest day, at 9 hours and about 55
minutes?

5. Which planet's moon is Callisto?

6. After some heated discussion in the astronomy world in 2006,
Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet, and what had been the
largest asteroid was promoted to a dwarf planet. Name that
former asteroid.

7. Consequently, which planet now has the longest year, nearly
165 Earth years?

8. There are two types of comets, short-period comets (with solar
orbits of less than 200 years) and long-period comets.
They're thought to originate in two different regions of the
solar system. Name either region.

9. In 2005, the atmospheric-entry probe Huygens landed on Saturn's
largest moon. Name that moon.

10. In 1986, in a multi-country effort, five space probes -- Giotto,
Vega 1, Vega 2, Suisei, and Sakigake -- shared a single mission.
What was it?

* Game 6, Round 3 - Entertainment - Parodies of "Masterpiece Theatre"

1. The Cookie Monster hosted some "Masterpiece Theatre" parodies on
"Sesame Street". What was the title of the spoofs that he did
as his alter ego "Alistair Cookie"?

2. This founding "Saturday Night Live" not-ready-for-prime-time
player hosted skits called "Bad Theatre" as Leonard
Pinth-Garnell. Who?

3. Name the famous journalist, sportswriter, actor, and occasional
amateur sportsman, well known for participatory journalism,
who hosted a cartoon show on the Disney Channel called
"Mousterpiece Theatre".

4. English actor Malcolm McDowell did an Alistair-Cooke-like turn
in an episode called "Pip" (based on "Great Expectations")
of which American adult cartoon series?

5. Both members of this musical duo were former keyboard players
for the Beach Boys. In 1976 on their TV variety show they had
skits called "Masterjoke Theatre", hosted by "Allistar Banister"
(who was played each time by a different celebrity in a Groucho
Marx disguise). Name the duo.

6. During the first two seasons of this NBC comedy series,
actor/funnyman Harvey Korman appeared as "Alistair Quince"
to soberly introduce the episode. What series?

7. Actor Jason Lee starred in what comedy TV series where he
introduced an alternative reality episode called "Bad Karma"
on a set made to resemble "Masterpiece Theatre"?

8. Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier did a sketch called "Parody
of Masterpiece", where they recited the lyrics to early '90s
gangster rap, in a Season 5 sketch of which popular comedy
series?

9. She's a world-famous actress with 18 Academy Award
nominations and 3 wins. She played a character named Rachel
in the 1986 film "Heartburn". During the film she watches a
"Masterpiece-Theatre"-like program narrating the story of her
own life. Name her.

10. In the episode "Storyteller" of this extremely popular
cult/supernatural/fantasy TV series starring Sarah Michelle
Gellar, a character named Andrew Wells introduces the episode
in the style of "Masterpiece Theatre". Name the series.

4. 4 for Joshua, Dan Tilque, and Peter. 3 for Dan Blum.

The rings of Saturn are visible in a small telescope, but the
rings of Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune are quite faint and were
not discovered until the late 20th century. Here's are Jupiter's
rings, photographed in a way that makes them visible:

http://web.gps.caltech.edu/~mbrown/images/keckring.html

(Mike Brown is the same guy who discovered the 10th planet in our
solar system and then did his best to have "planet" redefined so
it wouldn't count, as per question 6.)

Here's a Hubble Space Telescope photo of Uranus with its rings:

And here's one from the probe Voyager II showing Neptune and its
rings:

That is to say, its axis of rotation is more nearly parallel to its
orbital plane than perpendicular to it.

Uranus. 4 for Joshua, Dan Tilque, Bruce, Dan Blum, Peter, and Rob.

Jupiter. 4 for Dan Blum. 3 for Rob.

Saturn is next shortest. Mercury and Venus were other popular
guesses, but in fact they have the *longest* days, so long that
the solar and sidereal days are completely different in length
in each case.
