for the Lutherans and, I believe, the Catholics and Episcopalians.

No. You got fooled by the mislabeled batting average in baseball. An
average is usually the arithmetic mean of a set of numbers, but the word
is sometimes applied to the median value or the mode (most common value
in the set). A baseball batting average is none of these things.

A good batsman averages 40 (ie runs per dismissal), a very good one 50 and
a handful have managed 60 in the 130+ years of Test cricket. 99.94 really
is off the scale. As Rob pointed out, it could have been 100 if he had
scored just 4 runs in his last innings instead of 0.
