These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2011-02-07,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days. For further information see
my 2011-05-23 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI5GNM, QFTCI11, QFTCIMM)".

I wrote both of these rounds.

* Game 4, Round 9 - Sports Movies

This is the entertainment round; it is also the sports round.
We'd like to thank Unnatural Axxe for this idea, which they used
in the last Final they wrote. For each question, we will name one
or two movies whose plot revolves around a certain sport, and you
must name the sport. In some cases other sports may come up in
a secondary way in the movie, but you must name the main one in
the plot.

Note, some of the sports may be a bit non-mainstream -- but we do
promise that none of them will be poker.

1. "National Velvet" (1944).
2. "Kansas City Bomber" (1972), "Whip It" (2009).
3. "Kingpin" (1996).
4. "A Knight's Tale" (2001).
5. "Bring It On" (2000), "Fired Up!" (2009).
6. "Personal Best" (1982).
7. "Bend It Like Beckham" (2002).
8. "Tin Cup" (1996).
9. "The Harder They Fall" (1956).
10. "Men with Brooms" (2002).

After completing the round, please decode the rot13:
Inevbhf fcbegf ner pnyyrq "sbbgonyy" va qvssrerag pbhagevrf. Vs lbh
tnir gung nafjre, cyrnfr vqragvsl gur fcrpvsvp fcbeg lbh zrna.

* Game 4, Round 10 - Challenge Round from Mars

This is the challenge round from Mars. Your categories are
Field of Mars, Mars, Martial, Martial *Arts*, *Marital* Arts,
and Marital *Art*.

A. Field of Mars (Geography)

A1. In what national capital city would you find a park
whose name translates into English as "Field of Mars"?

A2. Please decode the rot13 only after you are done with
question A1. Gur Cnevf cnex va gur ynfg dhrfgvba jnf
gur Punzc-qr-Znef. Nqwnprag gb rnpu raq bs guvf cnex, naq

B. Mars (Science)

B1. How long is a year on the planet Mars? Please answer
in Earth days, within 100.

B2. Mars has a thin atmosphere consisting primarily of
what gas?

C. Martial (Literature)

C1. The poet Martial was best known for 12 books of short
satirical verses, called what?

C2. What language were Martial's <answer C1> written in?

D. Martial Arts (Sports)

D1. What martial art has a name that means "gentle way"?
It is derived from an older martial art whose name means
"gentle skill" or "gentle art".

D2. What martial art has a name that means "empty hand"?

E. Marital Arts (Miscellaneous)

These two questions are actually about sex... we apologize for
any implication that that might have something to do with marriage.
Specifically, they are about *4-letter acronyms* related to sex.

E1. What does BDSM stand for?

E2. What does MILF stand for?

F. Marital Art (Entertainment)

These two questions are about movies whose lead characters were
married couples, and were played by real-life *unmarried* couples.

F1. This is a 2005 action comedy with Brad Pitt and Angelina
Jolie playing secret agents specializing in assassination.
Name the movie.

F2. What was the title of the 1949 comedy starring
Katharine Hepburn as a lawyer defending a woman who shot
her own husband, and Spencer Tracy as Hepburn's husband,
the prosecutor?

No idea, but it sounds more like a guerrilla organisation than sex-related!

aikido means "the way in harmony with the spirit (of the universe)";
tai chi chuan, to give it its full name, means "supreme ultimate fist";
and taekwondo means "the kicking-fist way". Or something like that.

I looked up Campus Martius on wikipedia after taking the quiz. As best I
can tell, it hasn't been park-like (i.e. open space with lots of
greenery) for at least 1800 years, probably longer.

I shouldn't get credit for this one, since my answer was "Arc de Triumphe".

Yeah. This came up on a protest in the original game, so I already
had to check it out. In addition, the original version of the
question just said "what city", so I then had to accept Montreal,
which also has a Champ-de-Mars, and would've had to accept Detroit,
where the Campus Martius *is* a park, if anyone had given it and
made a protest.

Urk! So it was. Sorry about that, folks.
