If you're talking about the armistice, that was 1918-11-11. If you
actually mean what you said, the date of the Versailles Treaty, I'm
not sure: it was something like 1919-06-20, and that's my guess.

It never did. There was an armistice on 1918-11-11, but the actual
peace treaties were not signed by all belligerents nor ratified by
all that signed.

But that was with Germany alone. The Treaty of Trianon was with
Hungary (or Austria?), and there was a separate treaty with the Porte
as well.

I stand by my answer that wwI never actually ended, legally.

_officially_ ended.

And, I say, the world war officially ended when the treaty was signed and
not enough countries were involved for it to be a world war. The actual
date was 1919-06-28, by the way.

From Wikipedia:

Transom (architectural), a bar of wood or stone across the top of a door
or window, also a fixed window over a door or another window

Merriam-Webster (m-w.com) considers lintel and transom to be synonyms.

I've had a look at several dictionaries (see below) and I'm not going to
allow transom. I agree the words are synonyms in some cases, but the key
point of difference remains: a transom is never *above* a window.

Transom

* a crosspiece separating a door or the like from a window or fanlight
above it.

* a crossbar of wood or stone, dividing a window horizontally.

* A horizontal crossbar in a window, over a door, or between a door and a
window above it.
