This is my second lyrics quiz, but this one actually has a theme!
So the theme is, all these songs are from albums where the title
track was(is) a popular song. Some of the songs are also popular
themselves, but not all are guaranteed to be.
Points are award as: 2 for the song, 2 for the artist, 1 for the
album. Double points if you are the only one to get a song.
Songs are listed in alphabetical order by artist/group
under the normal alphabetization rules used around here.
One warning -- my feelings as to what songs were popular and
reality may not neccessarily coincide -- for one, I'm from Canada
and the hit charts here don't neccessarily coincide with those
elsewhere, and my impressions are based on what I remember here
pretty often.
Of course, please MAIL responses -- don't post; my email address
is dag...@qnx.com. I don't need the lyrics back. Responses
are due by June 5, but I will accept late responses if they
get to me before I post results.
Have fun!
And now for the lyrics:
1. I don't wanna talk
About things we've been through
Though it's hurting me
2. My lightning's flashings across the sky
You're only young, but you're gonna die
3. Spy, spy, pretty girl
I see you see me through your window
Don't turn your nose up
Well, you can if you want to, you won't be the first or the last
It must strain you to look down so far from your father's house
4. Who's gonna tell you things aren't so great
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
5. Oh my god
I can't believe
It's happening again
Your baby gone
And you're all alone
And it looks like the end
6. New in from London
Only to shop Seventh Avenue
They got what she wants
You just don't get it over there
Ooh, she's so attractive
She'll do anything to stay that way
7. See his children jump off
At the stations one by one
See his woman and his best friend
In bed and having fun
Oh, he's crawling down the corridor
On his hands and knees
8. May you constantly amaze us
May your answers not be wrong
May your head be on your shoulders
May your tongue be in your cheek
And most of all we pray that you may
Come back next week
9. You should never argue with a crazy mind
You oughta know by now, you oughta know by now,
You can pay Uncle Sam with the overtime
10. From a town known as Wheeling, West Virginia
Rode a boy with a six-gun in his hand
And his daring life of crime
Made him a legend in his time
East and west of the Rio Grande
11. Tonight, we'll turn the world around
And we'll hver and we'll leave the ground
In the magic which frees
She's the dancer
We wanna be
12. Starry, starry night,
Paint your palette in blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
13. I'm tired of words and I'm too hoarse to shout
But you've been cold to me so long
I'm crying icicles instead of tears
14. I can hear her heartbeat
From a thousand miles
And the heavens open
Every time she smiles
And when I come to her
That's where I belong
15. You bought a guitar to punish your ma
And you didn't like school
And you know you're nobody's fool
16. You just don't get it
Baby, don't you ask yourself why?
If you don't lik the answer -- forget it
You know I hate to see you cry
17. Wreathed in smoke in Lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of Afghanistan
Rewards a long day's toil
18. You say it all depends on money
And who is in your family tree
19. You're messin up the water
You're rolling in the wine
You're poisoning your body
You're poisoning your mind
20. My fingers kill me as I play my guitar
Cause I been chewing down at my nails
My headline ain't exactly superstar
Bur there's one thing that never fails
This never fails:
I write the same old song with a few new lines
And everybody wants to cheer it
And finally a bonus question, worth up to 10 points:
(part marks for humour)
A. Why did I chose the theme I did for this quiz?
