These questions were written to be asked in Toronto on 2012-04-09,
and should be interpreted accordingly.

On each question you may give up to two answers, but if you give
both a right answer and a wrong answer, there is a small penalty.
Please post all your answers in a single followup to the newsgroup,
based only on your own knowledge. (In your answer posting, quote
the questions and place your answer below each one.) I will reveal
the correct answers in about 3 days.

All questions were written by members of Footloose and Firkin Free,
and are used here by permission, but have been reformatted and may
have been retyped and/or edited by me. For further information
see my 2012-05-10 companion posting on "Questions from the Canadian
Inquisition (QFTCI*)".

It was reported to be the longest kiss in movie history, at least at the
time and for many years after.

it's the longest kiss in the movies at over 3 minutes long (and likely the inspiration for kevin kostner's famous line from bull durham "... and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

I hate this question. I am willing to bet that the answer they wanted was "star trek" which is of course completely wrong, for many reasons. in 1967 it was the first scripted kiss between adults who were caucasian and negro, but hardly the first interracial kiss.

the real first interracial kiss was on the kids show "our gang" when the kid who played buckwheat kissed one of the white girls on the show circa 1922-1925. but it wasn't scripted, nor between adults.

this also ignores any white man kissing an asian woman, which occurred many times before the star trek episode I mentioned previously.

did I mention that I hate this question?

In this universe there *weren't* any US TV series in 1922-25.
Therefore your second answer is wrong and you get at most 3 points
despite your other comments being entirely legitimate.

I looked it up, and watched a few hours to confirm that in 1955 on the broadcast of 'the little rascals' show which was originally made as a series of shorts for the movie theaters in 1926, buckwheat kissed mary korman. this broadcast beat star trek by 12 years. I loved watching those shorts when I was little, and it brings back happy memories of a simpler time.

and I didn't mean to give multiple answers, but won't argue that point.

Ah, now that makes sense.

Sort of like the way it's not really true that double beds for married
couples weren't allowed on American TV before the 1960s. There was a
period when they weren't, but not until someone invented that rule.

On second thought, you get 2 points on this one. You didn't give
"Star Trek" as an answer, you just said it was wrong. So "Our Gang"
was your *first* answer. You didn't give any second answer, but I'll
accept that the true facts are sufficiently hard to research and count
the general description you gave as a correct second answer.

As I post this, Eskimo is not responding. So since I can't post any
illustrations right now, I'm going to skip directly to the next set
that doesn't have any -- Round 10 of the Final. We'll then return
to Rounds 8 and 9 later.

> ** Final, Round 7 - Entertainment

In the original game, this is the round that was tied with
Round 2 (Arts & Literature) for being the second-easiest
(after Current Events).

Baba Looey.

Some entrants guessed Speedy Gonzalez. He's a mouse, not a donkey:
http://images.wikia.com/ideas/images/9/92/Speedy_Gonzalez.png
For comparison while Eskimo is down, the picture posted as
toon/1.jpg was apparently this one:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/48/Baba_Looey_001.jpg

> 2. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/toon/2.jpg

Snagglepuss. 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Calvin, Gareth, Bruce,
and Rob.

Some entrants guessed Pink Panther. He does look fairly
similar, but differs in his markings as well as his clothes:

For comparison while Eskimo is down:

> 3. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/toon/3.jpg

Auggie Doggie. 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, and Bruce.

Some entrants guessed Huckleberry Hound. Huckleberries are blue
(or bluish anyway), so guess what color this character really is:

Megan Fox. 4 for Stephen.

Evidently not many "Transformers" fans here. I wonder why not. :-)

> 5. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/freckle/5.jpg

Emma Watson. 4 for Stephen, Pete, Calvin, Gareth, Joachim, John,
Dan Blum, and Rob.

Best known, of course, as Harry Potter's brainy friend Hermione.

> 6. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/freckle/6.jpg

Julianne Moore. 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Calvin, Gareth,
Joachim, and Dan Blum.

Oscar-nominated for "Boogie Nights" (1997), "The End of the Affair"
(1999), "The Hours" (2002), and "Far from Heaven" (also 2002).

> * Movie and TV Kisses

Longest kiss in movie history. (I don't know if it still holds
the record.) "Duration" could've meant the reverse, so it was
insufficiently specific for full points. 4 for Joshua, Stephen,
Pete, Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce, and Dan Blum. 3 for Gareth.

> 8. Name the TV program which showed the first interracial kiss
> on US television.

"Star Trek". 4 for Joshua, Gareth, Joachim, John, and Dan Blum.
2 for Stephen.

Kirk and Uhura weren't kissing voluntarily in the scene; aliens
had taken control of their bodies. It still counts as interracial
because, after all, William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols were kissing.
However, it doesn't really qualify as the first -- see Stephen
Perry's remarks.

"Roseanne". 4 for Joshua, Stephen, and Bruce.

> * Movie Weddings

> In each case, name the film.

> 10. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/wedding/10.jpg

"The Princess Bride". 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Marc, Calvin,
Gareth, Joachim, Dan Blum, and Dan Tilque.

As one entrant noted, these two don't actually marry in the movie.
But it is a case of true love, and he saves her from the marriage
that she's dressed for in the photo.

> 11. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/wedding/11.jpg

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding". 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Marc,
Calvin, Gareth (Oh God), Joachim, John, Bruce, and Dan Blum.

> 12. http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/msb/gfr7/wedding/12.jpg

"Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones". 3 for Stephen.

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" was the subtitle of a later animated
movie and TV series. I scored "Star Wars Episode II: The Clone
Wars" as almost correct. "Star Wars" was the wrong movie; it was
the original movie in the series and does not include a wedding.

> * Muppet Characters

Oscar. 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Marc, Calvin, Gareth, Bruce,

Count von Count. "The Count" was sufficient. 4 for Joshua, Stephen,
Pete, Marc, Calvin, Gareth, Bruce, Dan Blum, Rob, and Dan Tilque.

Animal. 4 for Joshua, Stephen, Pete, Calvin, Gareth, Joachim, John,
Bruce, Dan Blum, Rob, and Dan Tilque.

The term "Star Wars" is now used to refer to the six film series. The "first" instalment is now officially known as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope". See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/

If you don't consider "Star Wars" specific enough then I am not protesting, but if you think it refers only to Episode IV then I am!

Yes, of course it is. But when you're asked to name a movie, it's
specifically the first movie in the series.

> The "first" instalment is now officially known as

There is no "officially"; there is only "titles that have been used".
Only one movie has been known simply as "Star Wars", and so it shall
always be known.

And those who got it right were??? (I'm pretty sure I said baba looey)

which by my count should get me 36, not 32.
