No, you only saw printings of his paintings, if you want to get
absurdly technical about it.

Richard Kane Ferguson Sucks?!?!?!?!
Well that's a new one....
You're the first guy I've ever heard that doesn't like RKF drawrings!!
Have you seen Pillage??, Jasmine Boreal??, Boomerang???, Desertion??

Drew Tucker is one of my favorite artists....
Dandan and Arjoldns Ascent (Whatever way it is spelt) has some of the
deepest artwork on them that I have ever seen...

I like Snoddy's Boomerang much better. Desertion is terrible! The
picture makes NO SENSE AT ALL!

I prefer to use colored pencils.
But some of his artwork really sucks, too. I hated the Necrite.
Liked Infernal Denizen. Hated Holy Light.
Gosh, is it possible that artists have good and bad days?
chris.
P.S. I think Douglas Shuler's art stinks! All of it!

I've never seen them but I'd bet his drawings are also fabulous. His
abstract/impressionistic work compliments the other work in Magic
beautifully, if you ask me.
I can understand not liking his work, but to slam it is unfair to all
artists that choose not to work with photo-realism. If it was easy to do
what Tucker does, everyone would do it. Most of us are stuck with reality
as the basis for our art and expression. Tucker is not so limited.
Just my opinion.

I agree with you on Desertion. WoTC should never have let RKF near any
type of counterspell. It just doesn't work. I think his work on
creatures tend to be better. He seems to work best when given a specific
focal point. Sol Ka'nar and Dakkon are his to best works, IMHO. His
style is perfect for the legendary types.

Didnt he do order of the ebon hand? One of my all-time favorites.

The expansion it came from _is_ The Dark, which was supposed to have
cards representing the twisted side of each colors theme. Just because
it's a 'Holy Light' doesn't make it any less painful for the 'unholy.' ;)

He sucks, horrible art.
Unless you
> can draw better than him, don't complain!
My cat can draw better than him. Seriously though his work looks like
somone smeared (not painted) water color on canvass and then hung the
finished projet out in the rain for an hour or two. They guys just has
no skill whatsoever which is why he paints abstract, it requires no
skill.
To me, the problem with RKF is that they used the same art of his
for Desertion, Boomerang, Dissipate, both Arcane Denials, and Essence
Flare. (Come on... look at 'em... you KNOW it's just a touch-up every
time! <g>)
He's good, but his best work is that which is most off kilter for
him, such as the Thrull he did and Earthquake.

He paints.

Hey, I actually kind of like the Foglios...
Including Tucker's art.
> That is Tucker's strong point. He can evoke a feeling thru simple watercolor.
> Not mnay people can do that.
I'm actually a phenominal fingerpainter.
I still wouldn't want to subject anyone to any of my artwork on a Magic
Card. It just wouldn't fit.
That's the point -- Drew Tucker's art is shit because he uses a medium
that isn't appropriate to his subject matter and audience.
Also, a necrite isn't a feeling. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but a
feeling it isn't.
About RKF's work, the older stuff was better -- I think he's been
churning stuff out on a pretty mechanical basis: "Hey, Rich, toss
together another counterspell pic for us!"

I disagree. Ferguson's work is among my favorites of all time, and include the
art for the 5th EarthQuake, Arcane Denail, and 5th Recall.

just following on from the drew tucker thread, I find a lot of his
artwork to be pretty bland/shapeless/ill-defined. while it may be entirely
different to any other current magic artist (and thus unique), it is still
difficult for me to appreciate. some of the worst art in magic has imo
been done by tucker (although any of his art that I feel is substandard is
easily beaten by kathryn rathke's dread specter from mirage). he has,
however, done some good pieces; the first to come to mind would be
repentant blacksmith and harmattan efreet. sadly, the good cards are
definitely out-numbered by the bad (decomposition, musician, etc.).

my favourite artwork is done by (the dearly departed) robert
bliss, whom I wish wotc would ask back for another expansion. the artwork
I spend most time looking at would probably be rkf, if only because there
is so much there to see. adam rex, however, is soon going to be king of
the magic art universe ;)

It is all matter of taste. I like Tucker and his style. My all
time personal favourites are Total War, Chaos cards from IA (by
Tucker) and the messiest picture of them all: Leshrac's Sigil.
But nowadays I am bit bored too see RKF:s pictures. They have
started to look same (and lame)....

I personally love some Drew Tucker's work. Some I hate at first, then
later I see the rest of the picture. For example: Dandan at first glance
looks like two boats siting peacefully on the water, THEN you see the giant
fish comming to the surface. When making art (vs. Illustrations), the
viewer is not supposted to see all the picture in a single glance. I will
admit some of Drew Tucker's are harder to see than the stereograms at the
mall.
I like the variation in the art of Magic, but some of the new photo-real
stuff could be taken with a camera, or generated with a computer. Now that
stuff is crap art. IMHO, all magic art should have two qualities: the
first, and most important, it should be reconizable from all other magic
cards artwork, and second, it should convey the spells intention or
subject.
My favorite artwork is done by Quinton Hoover, the art I spend the most
time observing is Drew Tucker's. I never could do watercolors.

Finally, someone else who mentions Robert Bliss as one of the best
artists. I'm the most bitter about him not coming back for the new
sets, as far as I can tell. I think he had the best combination of
technical ability with creativity out of just about anyone in the new
sets. How can anyone not like Skulking Ghost or Ekundu Cyclops?
I'm curious as to why he didn't do anything for 5th or Visions. Maybe
he was a little too ... suggestive?

Maybe he's working on a XXXenophile expansion? There's nothing
that game needs more than surreal phallic symbols!

For those keeping a scorecard, Quinton admits to trying to do a Tucker
with his Mistfolk (IA). Didn't work out as well, but he sees the genius
in Drew. (Quinton has his own genius as well)
