Topaz + Flaming Candle

It is stated that you can use Kiss of Lachesis to get a Flaming Candle out of
an ash heap multiple times, and even have multiples in play, because it is not
"playing" or "equipping".

So here's the situation:
Flaming Candle has been played earlier this game.
I control Topaz, and Topaz takes a successful Equip action to get a Leather
Jacket.
I look at my prey's hand, and see a Flaming Candle there.
Can I "take" it, by Topaz's card text?

I think yes, but I got challenged.

Yes.
That is neither playing it nor equipping it. Topaz played and equipped the
Leather Jacket, then took (moved) the Flaming Candle.
