IANLSJ but until Byzar is influenced out, he's an uncontrolled
"vampire" crypt card, not Byzar. If Gisela burns that card, Byzar's
text can't enact, he's not Byzar at that point.

Well, he's Byzar (if some card goes looking), but you're correct that
a card's text only applies when that card is in play. He goes to the
ash heap.
