I was just poking around, looking for Jyhad/VTES artwork, and I found out that
Ken Meyer Jr. has some sample artwork for the upcoming Camarilla Set. Come see
some of the vampires that will be featured this August!

Decent artwork. Nothing spectacular, but they're well-drawn/painted/whatever.
At least it's a refreshing change from Shy^10...

Enjoy!

Eh? I think that Adelaide is a superb piece and Alejandro is better
than any of the usual Shy/Snelly stuff too.

Sorry to bother you guys, but i like a lot Crist Shy artwork. But i
personally think that CS should have more different faces to base
his artwork (and to avoid repetitions).
Ken Meyer Jr is also a great artist... he created Succubus ally!

Now where are the new Drew Tucker and Harold McNeill works? ;) I'm
always happy to see some _real_ art rather than digitally enhanced

I agree. I don't like Shy's cards at all. They all look very similar,
and they all have a fuzzy, blurred look to them that makes them look
like someone took pictures of them and they had a camera that was always
out of focus. And why do nearly all his vampires have completely black
eyes? Snelly's work wasn't so bad, although I still like Meyer's work
better.

I've gotten a little tired of the Photoshop work (I'm a professional
designer/illustrator/programmer, I've done Photoshop painting before,
it can have *lots* more variety and character than Shy and Snelly have
shown us), but I can't say I'm all that impressed by what I saw on
those links. Not bad, sure, but I could do better, and I don't
consider myself a top-quality illustrator.

Then again, the roleplaying industry isn't known for paying all that
well (no offense to anyone), one of the reasons I suppose you don't
see the really good artists doing work there (again, no offense to RPG
genre artists, but the fact is Coke pays far better than TSR, so the
high-dollar artists draw anthropomorphic polar bears instead of
vampires).

And it is easier to sniff... ;-)

Which is what people must do in order to prefer Ken Meyer to Shy. His
drawings are beautiful, and the "out-of-focus" or "black eyes" effects give
a unique style to his vampires. But I'll grant that the drawings were
beginning to look a little too similar, if only because he did a lot of
them. I like Snelly a lot too, and I think Photoshop-like drawings fit
better the modern look of vampires than regular (and bad) drawings. He also
proved, earlier on, he could draw, period (Photoshop wasn't that popular at
the time).

That, of course, and what follows, is just my personnal opinion. I'll
contend with setting the fires on, as I won't be here to answer the rest of
the thread for a few days... :-) So :

Ken Meyer's older drawings (Samantha, Dylan etc.) are better than the 2 we
got to see, but I can't say they're great, in any respect.

My other favorite vampire artists were, of course, John Bolton and TIm
Bradstreet, but it looks like these are too expensive now (gotta pay the
Coke...).

Although Durwin Talon did a fine job on some minion cards, I'm not sure I'd
like him that much on vampires (Synesios kind of sucks), and John Van
Fleet's Delilah Monroe, although nicely drawn, does not fit the Vampire
style IMO (Sela does, though). IT's amazing how this guy can go from great
(Lucita, Pieterzoon) to awful (Victoria Ash, Calebros - he's supposed to be
ugly, but she's not !!).

Max Fellwalker's Delgado was great (although another Photoshop work...), as
was Carter (a little looking alike, ain't they ?).

Mike Dringenberg can also go from good to bad. But never quite reaches
greatness.

A few other drawings out there were nice IMO : Makarios (A. Rabinowitz),
Lachaln, Noddist (Michael Astrachan) (sure they both look like fags, but
well, they're Tores, aint they ?), Mark Poole's Masika, William O'Connor's
Terrence, etc. Most of the old Ventrue looked bad, but some Tremere were
nice : Ulugh Beg, Cassandra, Javier Montoya, Merril Monitor, Sarah Cobler
(even Astrid Thomas wasn't that bad, but not beautiful either).

In Final Nights (wether reissues or not), we see some nice drawings by
Fellwalker again (Natalia, Kania, Harikaaaaa... but Sasha sucks), Cliff
Nelson (great Salbatore), and Ken Meyer's are barely ok, never great.

It seems Glenn Fabry did a few covers for WW, why not some vampires ?

What about Brom ?

One of the reasons we like to collect vampire cards are the drawings, and
they sure improved recently from the old editions ; I'd guess it was one of
the reasons for issuing so many new vampires (with the fact that there have
been many new disciplines since VTES) ; so please : give us some good art
!!!

Orpheus, the esthete (and I prefer Gini anyway).

>Which is what people must do in order to prefer Ken Meyer to Shy.

First off, I have to admit that Meyer's latest works aren't that awe-inspiring.
I was just trying to be nice! ;)

But old-school Meyer is impressive to say the least. Kemintiri (from VTES and
also Kindred Most Wanted) and Succubus are simply unbelievable!!!

>His
>drawings are beautiful, and the "out-of-focus" or "black eyes" effects give

Yeah, but they look all the same. Shy's work gets incredibly boring incredibly
quickly.

>He also
>proved, earlier on, he could draw, period (Photoshop wasn't that popular at

On a similar topic, even though Lawerence Snelly has done some decent work with
his new Photoshop-style, I really miss some of his earlier work as well...

>Ken Meyer's older drawings (Samantha, Dylan etc.) are better than the 2 we
>got to see, but I can't say they're great, in any respect.

Dylan's okay. But Samantha? She's pretty nasty IMO. Kemintiri and Succubus
definitely win the award!

>Although Durwin Talon did a fine job on some minion cards, I'm not sure I'd
>like him that much on vampires (Synesios kind of sucks)

Yeah. Krassimir and Nu are decent, but Synesios looks uber-lame.

>and John Van
>Fleet's Delilah Monroe,

Delilah is really nasty in VTES, even though her picture is actually rather
decent in Chaos Factor.

>IT's amazing how this guy can go from great

Hear, hear!

>Max Fellwalker's Delgado was great (although another Photoshop work...), as

My favorite works of his are definitely Stanislava and maybe Antoinette and
Billy.

>Mike Dringenberg can also go from good to bad. But never quite reaches

Ugh. This is the artist who drew "I'm melting...I'm melting..." Quentin?

>A few other drawings out there were nice IMO : Makarios (A. Rabinowitz),
>Lachaln, Noddist (Michael Astrachan) (sure they both look like fags, but
>well, they're Tores, aint they ?),

Exactly. I've always thought that Makarios and Lachlan SO look like fags, but
it's a bit embarrassing and un-PC-ish to say something like that! Lachlan seems
to have that limp-hand-thing down to an art, and Makarios...um...let's just say
that I don't know how *anyone* would be Seduced by *him*...

>Most of the old Ventrue looked bad,

Yeah. Jazz, Melissa, and Luccia were decent. Arika was good, and NAKOVA was
AWESOME! Mmmm...but most of the other Ventrue are pretty ugly. I still get
shivers when I think about Ranjan Rishi, Wilhelm's weird hair or whatever, and
Courtland.

>but some Tremere were
>nice : Ulugh Beg, Cassandra,

Ulugh's cool and Cassandra is super-cool! Cassandra's floating, and Ulugh has
candles floating. Isn't that neat?

>Javier Montoya

Ugh. Not a big fan of Javier.

>Merril Monitor, Sarah Cobler

Merrill and Sarah are pretty good. They're really not *that* great looking but
they're decent enough. Blythe is also pretty good, though she's a bit chubby.

Besides Ulugh and Cassandra, I think the better-looking Tremere include
Rebekka, and Elisabetta has that wild look.

Once again I have to say how much hotter Aisling could have been (you should
really check out her picture from New York by Night). Sabine looks like a bit
too masculine with her jaw and all. Lydia, Thomas, and Roreca aren't that
impressive either. And Ignatius is classic bad Harold Arthur McNeill (not a big
fan). And though Etrius is a great character in the WoD, he looks like such a
wuss in the card game.

As I've said multiple times before, I really want to see more good-looking, hot
(both female and male) vampires. Please! Help me boycott ugly vampires! (Which
is why I never play Nosferatu, !Nosferatu, Samedi, or Harbingers). =)

That may be due to the fact that you're not gay...but perhaps I'm wrong and
you just haven't told all of us yet. Half of our regular playgroup is
queer, so don't worry about being accepted for what you are. Mike was used
to playing vampire with mostly gay men before, so I imagine he'll still play
vampire with you after you come out. Let me know how that goes for you...
;)

All teasing aside, though, I concur: Makarios and Lachlan DO look like
fags.

What? The Baron is SOOO dead sexy...what are you talking about? Nothing
turns me on more than flesh rotting off the bone...hot, hot, HOT!!!

All kidding aside, I'm rather fond of the artwork for some of these
clans...others (*cough* Shy's work *cough*) blow donkey balls. Just an
opinion...
