I could be wrong, but I remember it being available through the
http://www.vtesinla.org/index.asp site. They appear to have changed
their web layout and may have dropped the article. If you want to dig,
try starting at http://www.thelasombra.com/strategy.htm.

Yup, it was Paul's little invention, and was/is genius. It really will
make your decks better, if you have the time to test them ala Paul.
Robert - can you put that article up again?

I'll need to convert the content for the new formatting. But in the
meantime...it is still available here:
http://vtesinla.org/playtest.htm
Or you could just skip the die and assume that whatever can go wrong
will go wrong and get yourself a reasonable simulation of his system.

Yeah, that actually was how I found it finally. Using it for a offtake
of the death star right now. Thanks for the help though.

A much, much better way to playtest your deck is to play it on JOL:
http://deckserver.net/jol3/beta
It's totally free, easy enough to learn, and you can have 10+ games
going at once. It also lets you experiment with cards you might not
own, and want to decide in advance if they're worth trading for.
Ira
I tried that once and couldn't get it work. I also definitely cannot
do that at work on a State owned computer. I will try to get it on my
home computer again...
Thanks,
Jonathan
There is/was two JOLs at one point. The one in the link above is the
text-based web-browser one. You shouldn't need to install anything, just
have a net connection and a browser.

Oh, good.

Or maybe not, I can't figure out how to build a deck...

yeah, took me a while to get a deck loaded, too. Having said that, just
asking in the front chat room should provide some useful replies. They
seem to be a pretty friendly bunch.
I vaguely recall using one of the deck-building tools that outputs in
text format (I used ARBD, 'anarch revolt deck builder'), and then
copy-pasting it into the deck loader in JOL. But with vampire's stats
taken off.
so lines should look like:
4x Keith Moody
4x Govern the Unaligned
6x Bonding
etc
...i think.
Yes and no.
JOL has it's own metagame - lots of combat. And it is slow - it's taken
me about 3 months to realize that my Ani/Obt HellforLeather deck is
really really really bad. And you have to inflict your crappy deck on
your crosstable allies (sorry all!). And in response to your last
sentence, I have one word: Proxies (not recommended for real play, only
when testing with self).
Paul's system lets you factor in your own metagame by adjusting die
targets. And you can do it in as much time as you want. And only you
get to see how crappy your deck is before you go out and play it. Other
small benefits include actually seeing the cards in play, which allows
you to recognize them from a distance, honing the skill of "scanning"
your opponent's play region without having to ask about it. You can
also practice other aspects of "table presence"; like trying to control
your tells, etc etc. None of which you can do on JOL.
Things you can do on JOL that you can't do in Paul's system - practice
your table management. Learn about how others are using cards that you
may have never thought to put in decks, ever. See other deck designs,
and other play styles. Meet cool VTES players from around the world,
and in your own backyard.
So, to be honest, I disagree with your characterization of JOL vs Paul's
system as "much much better". I just think it's different.
