Subject: [Results] ACT qualifier - unofficial results
Dom, the judge, might get back to me with official results at some
point, but in the meantime:

John Altson-Campbell won with a stinky weenie deck, in a mighty field
of 21 players including Newcastlers, Sydneyites, and Adelaidians.

(actually, i really like john's deck).

Finalists, in seating order, were:

John Merton with !Malks 0.5
John A-C with weenie aus/dem 1.5 WINNER!!
Claudio (something) with Wynn 0
Ben O'Neill with Gangrel 0.5
Julian Gatts with Nadima based Aus/Pro wall. 0.5

Honourable mention goes to Shane Schneider who was actually coming 5th
at the end of the prelim rounds with a weenie obf deck, but he stepped
aside to let 6th play the finals and get the prizes...and so he could
leave to go back to Sydney to go clubbing....

I'm not sure what the rankings were going into finals, so i can't say
who got 2nd through 4th.

I know i came 12th or 13th or something with Samedi (i was too busy
organising for 7 (!?!?!) interstaters to stay at my house to remember
to actually choose, practise, and tweak a real deck). The deck in
concept is based off one i saw posted here that won something
worthwhile one time. it probably would have been a good idea if i had
looked at that winning decklist when i was making mine. although i
know i'd not come close to the required number of Hag's Wrinkles.

my round by round might go a bit like this, depending on how good my
memory is:

round 1:
me with Samedi equipment/bleed with a hint of dom.
Jeremy with Tzimisce wall
Alex Gilles with Brujah anathema combat
New Guy #1 with a retooled Alastor starter.
Claudio with Wynn

Jeremy blocked me a lot. Wynn binned a bunch of my guys. I managed to
cunningly whip together a force of will that was hopefully, if my luck
stretched far enough, oust jeremy when combined with the Fame in
torpor controlled by New Guy. My luck didn't stretch far enough, i got
Jeremy down to 1, Claudio cleaned up. :(

round 2:
me with Samedi
Ashley with Tzimisce wall (f*ck!!)
Julian with pro/aus wall
Alex with Brujah anathema

Ashley was doing alright, i was having trouble getting anything
through. Alex was being held in check by Julian blocking his votes n
stuff. then i Kiss of Ra'd ash's meshenka with the Baron, bled for 1
with laurent de valois to get the edge, and ate meshenka with Lithrac,
who's special plus baron and edge kept him alive against alex's volker
and rake and in-hand vote card.
ash ended up down to one mostly empty vamp. i kept the pressure up,
but started losing minions to alex's attacks. then alex put anathema
on julian's Nadima (who had a haven uncovered). alex went in, Julian
played a combat ends. another one. he'd been playing them all game.
i had a laurent sitting around with 1 blood. i was on 2 pool or so.
Nadima only had 1 blood. i thought i'd give it a go. Julian then
offered to let me have it anyway, to make sure alex didn't get it.
then he realised he was probably going to oust alex anyway, so he took
back his offer. i took the punt anyway, attacked, hands for one, 8
pool for me. i then ousted ashley yhe turn or so after with a bleed
for 4 or something. julian then killed alex and me.

round 3
me Samedi
Brendan !malks/malks w/ fortitude
John A-C weenie aus/dem
Nick Miller gangrel

normally i sit cross table with Brendan and things always get ugly
with asks for help, rejection, retribution, and us both getting
ousted. sitting next to him was much better, as it made our struggle
worthwhile. especially since i ousted him this time. :)
john got nick, and then it was john and I. it was looking grim, but i
was in with a shot. but i died instead.

so i ended the day with 2 vps. not bad for a crappy samedi deck,
considering the competition. and i think i was in with a sniff for a
gw at a few points. oh well.

the final played for about 1hr20, before the store kicked us out
(argh!), so we transposed to my house (where we were planning on
kicking on for social games anyway). the sydney guys that had been
staying at my house had left beer behind, so in the true aussie
tradition all the finalists bar one grabbed a stubbie (as did the
judge) and the game continued on from there. it was very tight all
along, with no one really able to do much to each other.

earlier, ben had brought out raven while he had camille in play, and
it didn't get noticed until the game had gone half way around the
table. the judge had to fix the situation, which could never go well
it was just so messy, but the game was restored to the most fixed
state possible.

anyway, john just managed to blip claudio, there was some more
struggling, and then it timed out.

Thanks to kieran yanner for signing a bunch of xaviars for us for
prizes, as well as some of his other BL stuff.

the support kit should even be arriving next week, so we should be
able to actually distribute qualifier tshirts and promos (we managed
to scrape together some Eyes, anthelios, legion, a dan and marianna
and some port authorities (and maybe a meddling, not sure. it was a
long day) from all sorts of crazy places to actually have some stuff
on the day. as well as boosters, which wasn't so hard).

Luckily the adelaide people are still in canberra next week, so i can
get Belinda her shirt, and they are going to sydney for a tournament
there on the weekend, so they can take the sydney qualifier's shirts.

lucky.

Actually, my deck wasnt' Nadima based as I only played 2 of her.  It
was Pretty much just an Earth Meld wall, and I only played 5 Auspex
cards in it, (4 Anima Gathering and 1 Revelations).

Going into the finals it was (I think)
1. John Merton
2. Julian Gatt
3. John AC
4. Ben O'Neill
5. Shane Schneider
6. Claudio

The reason I took back the offer was that when I offered her to you, I
forgot I had a rack targetting Nadima at the time.  I then remembered
and didn't want the rack going to waste.

That's odd... Shane didn't show up at Vortex as far as I know, and I
was there all night... perhaps his eyes stopped working?

You want mine as well? OK here it is:

Deck Name:   Bleed Like Me, Responsibly

Created By:  John Alston-Campbell

Description:

Not quite weenie OBF AUS DEM.  Concept was to bleed for 2 or 3 each turn and
avoid stealth jam but still have enough of it if need be; thus most of the
stealth served a dual purpose.  Reality was never enough DEM in the opening
crypt and rarely enough AUS for the counters to work effectively.  By the
time I got to the finals I knew that I had to go digging for the AUS or I
was toast against my Malk! predator.  I had to cycle like a bastard to oust
Claudio to win and learned that Misdirection is worth its weight in gold
(hang on, a single library card doesnt weigh very much), ok more.  Midget
was my vampire of choice on the day as my prey in both the third game and
the finals was packing raven spies.  Nor did I regret packing 16 Telepathic
Counters as they are eminently cyclable and manage to consistently
frustrate, with only one card, my predator.  My sympathies to Salem who
because of his irresponsible bleeding ultimately gave me the game win in
game 3 due to a pass the parcel bleed for 5 at 3 stealth!  Cheers Telepathic
Misdirection.
