Last night we held our 9th Annual Orgy of Mystery tournament in Ithaca
New York, vying for the coveted Evil Vampire Barbie trophy. With a
respectable 15 players playing a standard 2R+F tournament, James
Rodriguez won for the second time in a row, playing a version of the
Assamite Anarch Death Star Cannon deck.

Players, scores, and decks:

1. James Rodriguez 2GW/10VP; Assamite Anarch Death Star Cannon
2. Asif Chaudhry 1GW/6VP; Weenie obf bleed
2. Dave Conroy 1GW/5VP; Toreador Grand Balls
2. Alex Koratzanis 1GW/3VP; Tzimisce Smiling Jack wall
2. Chris Berg 1GW/3VP; Stanislava Pro/Dom bleed
6. Nick Hagen 0GW/2VP; Ravnos weenie Week of Nightmares
7. James Wilhelm 0GW/1VP; Cybelle Great Beast
8. Matt Rogers 0GW/1VP; Ravnos Traparition
9. Peter Bakija 0GW/1VP; !Nos weenie obf Black Hand
10. Ben Kalb 0GW/1VP; Pro/Dom Bleedzooka
11. Steve Wampler 0GW/1VP; Tremere Toolbox
12. John Stevens 0GW/1VP; Eze vote
13. Will Moore 0GW/0VP; Settite S+B
14. Dan Adinolfi 0GW/0VP !Malkavian S+B
15. Andrew Sackett 0GW/0VP Tupdog Vote

Going into the finals, Asif was top seed. The seating was:

1. Dave Conroy>
2. Alex Koratzanis>
3. Chris Berg>
4. James Rodriguez>
5. Asif Chaudhry>

Asif started out strong, rapidly bleeding down Dave, but then forgot to
oust him when he had the chance. Dave gets a leg back up, Parity Shifts
5 pool from Asif. Asif gets ousted by James. James powers into Dave, who
Asif left teetering, and James ousts Dave. The game kind of stabilizes
for a while, but eventually James gets an opening and busts through
Alex's defenses, bleeds him down, and ousts him by calling a Patsy to
remove Meshenka's Priscus title (and Alex burn 2 pool). Chris bleeds
into James, but can't stay ahead of James' Con Boon pool gain, and
eventually James wins with a GW/5VP sweep.

Fun tournament with special surprise guests Nick Hagen and Matt Rogers
fro Olean New York.

I'll post James' deck when he sends it to me. But all reports are it
isn't all that different from the NAC winning deck...

So, he's not going to send you the deck list. In lieu of that, I'm
going to post it in this very thread right here, for all the world to

Well to win the Vampire Barbie event two years in a row can’t be all
luck but I must confess I think a large part of this win was a result
of good seating and draws. I’ll also point out that the deck itself
is quite possibly horrible despite winning 3 events. I think I only
called the silly vote once the whole day mostly winning on the merits
of lots of bleeds for one or the combo of Khabar: the Community and
Club Illusion. I owe a lot of my success to one man: Andrew Sacket
(this word is French…pronounced properly as "sack eh’ " –The Editor ).
I rode Sacket like a fat hooker to the final table. Sadly I had to
rely on a new ride once I got there. Enter Asif whose noisy deck acted
as a very nice plow for me and a distraction for the rest of the table
who orchestrated his oust giving me plenty of time to set up an army
of vampires. Berg’s usually capable deck was forced to slow down after
Alex showed the ability to block key actions with Eagle Sight. I think
times when he would otherwise bleed for 3 with Slava he stayed home
perhaps with a hand lacking in combat ends. All and all I don’t like
the deck very well preferring similar decks with Amaravati without the
going anarch anchor tied to your leg. Despite being 75 cards it felt
like a lot of them were dead space. I was always sad to find Firebrand
in my hand and not anything else. I was ho-hum on CrimethInc as well,
however I may have liked these cards more had I seen Twilight Camp or
Seattle Committee in any of the games.

If you want to play this deck do the following to win:

(1) Don’t ever enter combat once at any table
(2) Don’t be bleed for more than 3 until you can call Con Boon for 12
(3) And most importantly: sit with Tupdog vote next to you twice

I'd like to give special thanks to James "The Kaiser" Wilhelm, Sean
Harington, and Chris Berg for teaching me how to play this game and by
some miracle not killing each other in the process (it was tough…and
the possibility still exists -The Editor again) Also thanks to the
Yeti ...For teaching me how not to play."

And the cheating phase never ends, crypt of 9?

Obviously the crypt had 12 vampires including 4 copies of convert just
like the other two death star decks not just one. This was written at
2:30 in the morning and then sent to another person to post on the
groups clearly something was lost in translation along the way. As far
as the cheating phase is concerned i can only assume this is a tongue
in cheek remark made with no offense intended but if i am off base on
that assessment i would love to know where you thought it began.

the cheating phase never ends is a long running comment used to point
out most deck description inaccuracies. So yes its tongue in cheek.
Every time I say something tongue in cheek, I do not necessarily use
smileys or something similar to make it more obvious. So yes, in this
case there was a deck error. And yes, I made a sardonic comment to the
fact that the cheating phase never ends. The fact that this comment
was made while my fever of 38.5 (thats celsius for the yanks) has now
been running for about 4 days (woohoo for free weight loss) has
absoltuely no bearing on the humorous nature of this statement.

Oh yeah, forgot something. :)

To be fair, I think James only played Death Star Cannon once the whole
tournament, not in the final, and when he did play it, it was completely
unecessary and mostly just to show off. And we all really wanted to see
it happen :-)

Ya know, if I was really clever, I would have posted one in the past 9
years or so. But I keep forgetting, and now she is out of my hands once
again. Maybe I can get Keiser to send me one...

(James, "the cheating phase" is standard newsgroup comedy that usually
comes up when people accidentally post illegal decks--you can even get
a cool t-shirt somewhere that has The Cheat in a square diamond, so
you have Superior Cheateristry :-)

I didn't taunt anyone with anything. Someone completely different than
me mentioned "The Cheating Phase", and I was just making sure James
knew what was going on. It's like people should read a thread or
something before responding to it :-) (See! Smiley!)
