There is something i never understood in Vtes.
In the "Guide to the Sabbat" book for the old world of darkness, there
is reference to all the "bloodlines" and antitribu that compose the
sabbat including the ahrimanes and Ventrue!. There it says that the
clan disciplines for the ventrue! are fortitude, presence and dominate
and the ones for the ahrimanes is animalism, spiritus and fortitude.
Why then, the presence of the Ventrue! is switched with auspex and the
Ahrimanes have presence instead of fortitude in the card game?
While in the ventrue! that is a reasonable trade, it makes little
sense for the Ahrimane which is a bloodline based in the woods that
deals with the spiritual world to have a disciplice that manipulates
human emotions...
What is the explanation? Was it a tactical choice after playtesting
the clans to make them more competive?
Thanks.
Someone else can probably give you a more detailed answer, but VTES
predates the revisions to clan disciplines that occurred in VTM 2nd
Ed, which is what those discipline listings are coming from.

It's still kind of interesting because in the 2nd ed Guide to the
Sabbat, it was supposedly a writer's mistake which made them have
Auspex instead of Presence. They were supposed to have the same
disciplines as the parent clan, i.e. Dom For Pre. This can also be
compared to the Malkavians, who had their clan disciplines changed in
Revised VtM and had this change reflected in VtES as well (the old
Malkavians have Dominate rather than Dementation as that was their
clan discipline in 2nd ed). It seems to be a bit random.
Regarding the Ahrimanes, that's a very good question too.
Hmm the info I had read about ahrimanes had them have presence, and
also listed them as most of the time living in cities. Might have been
a change between editions, like for example, 2nd and 3rd edition
Mychterceria was TOTALLY different. The myc cards in vtes have powers
from both versions.
I'm looking at the 1999 Guide to the Sabbat and for my life I can't
find the entry for the Ahrimanes... It's been a while since I read
through it, though. I do see the Ventrue Antitribu with DOM FOR PRE.
Anyway, the answer lies in earlier editions. I'm looking at the 1993
Storyteller's Guide to the Sabbat and I see that Ahrimanes have ANI
PRE SPI there. Also, in the Player's Guide to the Sabbat the Ventrue
Antitribu have AUS DOM FOR (which could have been a typo as mentioned
already).
Some of the disciplines were shuffled around between the editions; e.g.
in the 1993 book the Kyasid had Mytherceria, Necromancy, Obtenebration,
which got changed to Dominate, Mytherceria, Obtenebration (also used
in V:tES, although a lot of the Wierdlings have Necromancy as well...).

You must not be a cat owner. :) They are some of the most manipulative
animals I've ever had the pleasure and headache of having as a pet;
Ahrimanes having Presence in-clan makes perfect sense to me...

John, are you a cat owner, or does the cat own *you*?
- D.J.
I think the question is: Is John talking about cats or Swainbanks?
I actually read an article (in New Scientist, I think?) that pointed
out that there's good evidence that cats aren't technically a
domesticated animal, since they moved in with the Egyptians, rather
than the Egyptians taming them. So good question. But I fear we're
veering dangerously off-message for the newsgroup here.

Hush, child.
