The New Zealand Qualifier was won on Saturday by Greg Benseman playing
an Akunanse Animalism & Abombwe Wall.

Pre final Standings were

Greg Benseman 2 / 8 & 3VP in final
Jordan Green 1 / 4
Steve McRoy 1 / 3 & 2 VP in final
Amanda Fitzwater 1 / 3
Simon Reed 0 / 4
Paddy Mason 0 0
Alex ? (sorry mind blank!) 0 0
Mark Fitzwater 0 0

Final was Greg (Akunanse Wall) -> Jordan (Lasombra toolbox) -> Steve
(Ravnos DOM bleed) -> Simon (Assamite Bleed / Vote) -> Amanda (Speed
Shamblers). Greg choose to be preyed on by the Shamblers as his
fortitude and animalism combat could pretty well control them and
Amandas deck didn't have a load of stealth. No one wanted to be left
of Steves bleedzooker and seating positions were essientially decided
by that, which was all bad for me.

Final started pretty quickly. Jordan entombed two of Gregs Akunanse
and had to be rescued by Steve, Greg wore a couple of bleeds but then
sent an Archon Amandas way which slowed her right down. Steve bled me
a couple of times with governs and conditionings, I bloated as much as
possible to and bled Amanda a couple of times as I went searching for
pool gain. Greg recovered and started walling up, Jordan bled a
little and blocked a few of Gregs equips but stalled having to hunt as
the Lasombra got low on blood.

Then came the critical turn in the game. Amanda was on 8 pool, I was
on 11, and Steve was on 7. I had stealth, a loss, and a reckless
agitation I could pass in my hand. Oust was on so I went for the
bleed first as bounce was possible, sadly got bounced to Greg. Then I
had to decide what to do and called a boon instead of back ousting
Steve which is what I should have done, realised as soon as I had
called the boon. A couple of bounced govern bleeds from Jordan at
stealth and then another big bleed from Ezmerelda for 7 or so and that
was me out shortly followed by Amanda whose shamblers had taken too
much damange going forward into Greg.

Jordan kept going but couldn't quite get Steve who sacrificed
Ezmerelda for 11 pool. Steve had the cards to oust Greg with an
unblockable bleed for 7 but Jordan entombed Natalia before he got the
chance. Then Greg used Anthelios to get the Archon Investigation back
and the chance was lost sealing Steves fate. Greg eventually rolled
the other two as the animalism and abombwe combat was too much for
them to handle and they had got too low on blood. Greg winning the
day with 3 VP, winning 3 out of 4 tables, and not being ousted once.

So congrats to Greg for his first tournament win :-)

My own day was spent being a bleed sink after incorrectly picking the
meta. 3 out of 4 games I had power bleeders as predators and although
I had 7 Haqims Law: Leadership's in the deck plus con boons I just
couldn't handle that much pain, Paddy did something like 24 pool
damange in 3 turns to me in the first game and that was pretty much
the story of my day. I ended up trying to race the bleed zookers
around the table with limited success, I don't think any game lasted
more than an hour and a quarter all day that I played. The tragedy is
that I thought about putting in an Archon and decided against it
because I didn't think there would be power bleed - not one of my most
inspired decisions :-)

See everyone in Melbourne in October.

Greg's deck and description below. No I don't know where the name
came from :-)

Old paintycan Ned

Tricks people into bleeding themselves to death with infrastructure
they don’t need. Doesn’t use No Secrets; A: because its actually a
MagicTM card, B: because it doesn’t gel with anything but Auspex, and
C: Spiders have f. all stealth to bring them out anyway. Invoking the
Beast is the Akunanse’s king card, beats everything except C.E, but
Predator’s Communion and Cat’s Guidance help that. Pentex fixes power
vamps, Archon for filthy stealth.
