So named by Kevin M after I told him that the whole point of the deck
was to get me to day two. This is such a Day 1 deck. I never
expected to see the final table, much less take it.
The final round was hilarious; everyone at the table was playing sneak
bleed (though to be fair to my predator James M, his deck also did
sneaky politics.) I also think that everyone was playing bounce,
though it's possible that James was relying on Maris Streck's
special. I just kept Governing down and waiting for something to
happen, lest I bleed forward for 6 at stealth and have it bounced all
over the table. Sarah (my grandprey) got the first veep with her
Kindred Spirits deck (which contains a surprising amount of wake and
bounce.) She then got taken out by my prey Randall, who was playing
Kiasyd bleed.
With the table shrunk to Randall, James and me, it was tough and
surprisingly slow going for awhile. Madness Network made a huge
difference, and D.I. on a Deflection while I bled during my prey's
turn certainly helped (thanks for the suggestion, Kym!) As for me, I
had been drawing dry on Deflections for a long time, but I had to
represent the bounce by always leaving up a Dominate minion (often
Didi). When James discovered that I wasn't holding bounce, it looked
bad for me, but I drew into some at an opportune time later, and it
turned out to work to my advantage that I had drawn dry earlier
(despite having to eat a bleed for 5), because I was able to land some
surprise bounces that helped cinch my first VP, thanks to James
expecting me to be bounce-less.
In the heads-up portion of the game, James got to a position in which
he had set up a couple of master phase actions along with Anthelios
and a Malkavian Dementia, meaning that he could potentially borrow one
of my minions every turn! Due to Kevin's ruling that Greger would
come back to me tapped, it wasn't worth it to James to take him every
turn since he would get him tapped, so he grabbed Didi on his second
go. This worked to my advantage because I was able to cycle 2nd Trads
while I had Greger under my control, and soon I was in a position to
bomb James with bleeds during both his turn and mine, after using
Delaying Tactics to put off getting Banished. In the end I was
bleeding for the final three, and James's only untapped minion was
Jake Washington, whose intercept was being pumped by Maris. I top-
decked an Elder Impersonation after gaining lots of stealth, and that
was it.
It was a very fun, very close, very tense game in which I got pretty
lucky with my draws more than once. Thanks to all opponents for your
excellent sportsmanship all around.
Cheers,
-Bill
