[TWD] IV Brazilian National Championship
National Championship
Location: Vitória, Brasil
Date: October 13, 2007
Number of players: 18
Number of rounds: 3 + F

First of all, I'd like to thank all the players that joined us on the
biggest VTES weekend so far in Vitória. As a judge, I have to say that
it's a joy to coordinate an important event like this one in such a
relaxed and fun atmosphere. Thanks VTES and the VTES players for this.

Also many thanks to Oscar Garza and White Wolf for their invaluable
support.

The only downside of the weekend was the smaller overall turnout than
we expected. It's a shame (especially for those who missed ;), but we
had an amazing time anyway. It was very worth it for us organizers
and, I'm sure, for the players too.

About the National Championship final. We decided to try a 4-hour time
limit table. It lasted two hours and three minutes (table talk
included). The final result would be practically the same if it had
timed out at the two-hour mark (we would have had a 2.5-1-0.5-0-0
finish, instead of 4-1-0-0-0).

Eduardo Kazan (Tupdog) got the upper hand very early on, as his prey
Miguel D'Avila (a fighty Tremere) couldn't handle his pressure and was
all but ousted very soon. Kazan knew that Rafael Ramos (Imbued) would
be impossible to beat if he got his setup in place. Rafael was being
slowed down by Leonardo Vilella's (Tzimisce) Smiling Jack, though, so
Kazan decided to make a deal with Leonardo instead of just running
over him for his second VP (a very likely outcome).

Kazan dealt a few rounds with no block from Leonardo after Miguel was
ousted (those bleeds would be just enough not to oust Leonardo). In
exchange, Leonardo was allowed to keep his Smiling Jack and oust
Rafael. After that, they would play it on. Rafael and Daniel (Kiasyd)
tried to make a deal of their own and to make counter offers to
Leonardo, but it didn't work out.

Miguel was ousted then, giving Kazan his first VP. It wasn't long
until Rafael fell to Smiling Jack, giving Leonardo his VP (and putting
him at 7 pool).

Leonardo and Daniel dealt that they would keep Smiling Jack in play to
weaken Kazan (over 20 pool at that point), and that Leonardo wouldn't
try to oust Daniel until Kazan was out of the table.

Daniel went forward full strength and managed to bring Kazan down to 4
pool (Leonardo had two and Daniel had three himself). Kazan paid for a
six (or seven) counter Smiling Jack with 3 pool and blood for 3 or 4
other vampires (who had to hunt). He had 3 other vampires (with one
blood each) to try and oust Leonardo in his last chance to win the
title. He managed to successfully bleed with his third minion (a
Tupdog) and leave Leonardo with only one pool to be lost to Smiling
Jack.

The finalists were:

Eduardo Kazan (Tupdogs, 4th seed on coin toss) ->
Miguel D'Avila (Burner Tremere, 3rd seed on coin toss) ->
Leonardo Vilella (Tzimisce, 2nd seed) ->
Rafael Ramos (Imbued, 1st seed) ->
Daniel Stefanutti (Kiasyd, 5th seed)
