Hello -

The actual city was Glendale, but it may be listed as Los Angeles. This
was tournament #2, on Saturday May 23.

We had 15 players, although one had to drop out due to extreme levels of
Gatorade in his system (mixed with vodka).

My name is Chris Shorb. (Am I missing anything - deck is below...)

I had many lucky breaks in this tournament, but I had one super lucky
break in the first round. Preston had a Millicent on him, but decided to
act with Cesawayo anyway to get a No Secrets. For my deck, a prey with
No Secrets is *bad*, because although I have some stealth, I don't have
a ton of it. So I chose to block, using My Enemy's Enemy. Cesawayo
plays a Resist Earth's Grasp for another stealth. I top decked a Tele
Misdirection., and Ces had no more stealh - poof. That's luck right there.

That was my first game, with me preying on Preston's No Secrets from
Cesawayo, preying on James Lin's wacky Daughters/Dementia Intercept
deck, preying on Jeff Thompson's Lasombra small-mid-cap Dom bleeder,
preying on Win Henry's ugly Arika/Marcus deck.

I got lucky that Lasombra had a quick deck, and took up all of Win's
energy. Win was only able to get out Arika, and then had to defend as
best he could. I think Jeff was able to get Win, and then I got
everyone as Lutz and company got up and running.

I don't remember rounds 2 & 3 much, but I somehow managed to squeak out
another game win. I do remember that one of the games I didn't have
Lutz out at the beginning, and had to go with Adana and Rafaele. Other
highlights of those rounds were Robyn playing Villeins and Golconda-ing
and having huge amounts of pool to chew through (I think she stopped me
cold in that game). I also remember David Tatu and Mike Courtois having
Nos Royalty decks across from each other killing all my votes, and
finally hoping (and succeeding!) that Andy Fernandez's Toreadors would
get Mike so I could get vote lock.

The finals were in order of seed (I think Robert was lower seed than Jeff):

Win Henry (Arika/Marcus voter)
Aaron Clark (weenie pre/PRE Vote)
Robert Goudie (stealth DOM Mask of 1K)
Jeff Thompson (Lasombra mid-cap Dom/Obf bleed)
Chris Shorb (Lutz all over)

I had no idea what Aaron or Robert's decks did. I knew what Win and
Jeff's decks did, very well. Both times I had sat with Win, I knew that
he didn't do well with heavy pressure early. I also knew that by the
time he had Arika up, I'd be up too, and could counter pretty much most
of what he could throw at me. I also knew I didn't want to sit anywhere
close to downstream from Jeff Thompson's bleed machine (he may have bled
me out in an earlier round...). So having 2 buffers between Jeff and me
seemed the safest plan.

I didn't know what Robert's deck did, but figured I could handle it, and
he would pressure Jeff pretty hard.

So, the final seating looked like this:

Shorb(Lutz) => Goudie(dom/OBF) => Thompson(DOM/obt) => Clark(Pre Vote)
=> Henry(Arika)

With me going 1st I think.

As expected, Aaron started hammering into Win early, and by the time Win
had Arika up, he was down to less than 10 pool, and Aaron had 3+
minions. That was good for me, no pressure. More luck for me: in the
first 20 or so cards, Aaron did not draw a title, and none of his first
5 crypt cards had PRE. But! Aaron had no bounce, so he was the bleed
sink of both Robert and Jeff's bleeds. Aaron got Win down to single
digits, but then was ousted by Jeff. Win tried to recover (he even sent
Lutz to torpor with a Kiss of Ra!); but Jeff's onslaught was coming
next. I got lucky again because neither Robert nor Jeff diablerized
Lutz while he was in torpor, and he came back quickly the next round.

My problem most of the game was that there was 0 intercept on the table,
and I was clogging hard on stealth.

Jeff got Win, and was looking pretty good. However, he came to a bad
place where he ran out of bounce (more luck for me!). Also, I bled into
Robert at this point. It was win-win for me because I knew if Jeff
could be stopped, I could beat Robert head to head, and as higher seed,
I would win tied with Jeff. So either my bleeds would end up on Jeff
and help take him out, or end up on Robert, and I could get him.

Robert did get Jeff, but had only 8 pool or so. I burned my 3rd Ashur
and dug out a 2nd KRC for the win.

A great tournament, good seeing Lasombra, Fred Scott, and the Tatus at
the tourney. Good playing with all the locals, it was nice to meet Win
and Aaron, good guys.

Here's the deck:

Deck Name: Lutz All Out
Created By: chris shorb
Description: Lutz is a very good vampire. Vote with Lutz, or bleed for
3 with your IC's. A sprinkling of combat and bounce. Suffers vs
dedicated combat or walls. Should probably include a DI just for things
like No Secrets. The Force of Personalities are mostly for allies,
although doubles as more SCE. I only use the Aire with a non-IC, I'm
very Archon Investigation averse... Ashurs are gold, and definitely won
me the final, and probably helped me win at least one other game.

Just include more Elder Impersonation. Cese loves Elder Impersonation.

Go Shorb! Congrats!

So before I look at your deck, I gotta ask--were deck lists used? If
not, do you feel that the tournament suffered?

So why the 3 Minion Tap instead of Villein? 'Cause of the Ashur
recursion? Yeah, never mind. That is probabl;y the correct answer :-)

All in all, looks very reasonable. And apparently, worked well.

Yes, I deliberately sat as Robert's prey, as I had played against all
four of the finalists during the first 3 rounds. He was the only one
that was going to be doing any significant bleeding, and I needed his
oomph to get thru the votey/blotey decks at the finals table.

This is the deck that I played.

It was fun to play with you, Chris. In retrospect the advise you gave/
deals you offered me in game were pretty good (but I am always
sceptical for some reason ;0), so some ideas for me to chew on as a
newer player. It was just a thrill for me to get to the finals in
this tournament and qualify for the NAC.
