IIRC, Ropecon does the same thing. Is this common in those north Baltic
states then? I wonder why it's not done in the states...

Yes! Our con's are mostly just a shitload of gamers playing games all
over the place. Sleeping on floors, playing games till 6 am, eating
junk food, not showering often enough, etc ;)
It seems cons in the States and in other parts of Europe are more,
err, civilized with lots of companies promoting themselves and their
games. Here there are very few companies doing anything. The focus is
on the gamers. There are just lots and lots and lots of people playing
games.
Not sure if this is true for Ropecon though. Sadly I've never been
there. Yet!

Oh, and not to start that whole Scandinavia discussion again but
neither Sweden nor Finland are among the baltic state ;)
Cheers!
Alex
The use of "North" was intentional.
Or Bothnian if you prefer.

I don't mind if our Far West European friends use idiosyncratic geographical
terms, like "north Baltic states". ;)

So very true for Ropecon too!
Your nailed the local convention scene very aptly.
Perhaps we'll see you there this year? :)

That's because Sweden has a tradition of doing these things for free
(there are pros and cons to this). The organization that runs GothCon
is a non-profit organization, which means they can't make too much
money by law.
Hence, cheap is keyword. Cheap does not necessarily mean less quality
and for the last decade or two, the convention has been held at a
school which has all you need in terms of chairs and tables for the
gaming as well as a good sized lunch room (since it is a school and
kids eat there).
Sleeping quarters are usually located in the same rooms or the gym.
Basically you get what you pay for, but if you are fine by the simpler
ways of sleeping, the gaming experience (as Alex says) is awesome.
Four days of gaming rocks.

I'll see if I can come crash there. Ha. Ha. Ha.
We would be happy to host you and your wrecked car ;)
Sounds cool. I will see if I can round of some people from copenhagen.
Is there no event on the sunday?
Would be awesome to see you and the other Danes back in Göteborg.
There are no V:tES events scheduled for the Sunday (they are scheduled
for friday and saturday) but if there's interest I'm sure there will
be plenty of people willing to play casual V:tES games, Duffin Draft
or boardgames.
