Are you ready to become a Legend?

Elite VTES invitational in France

Do you dare to enter the "Legendary Contest"? The trials will be
perilous, the enemies manifold, but rest assured that the rewards will
be well worth it. In the last days of 2008, you can demonstrate your
deck-building and playing skills by coming to one of France's most
historical and fascinating cities: Montpellier.

On the 6th of December 2008, Asso-Jeux will be holding the first ever
"Legendary Vampire Tournament" in Montpellier! Starting in 2009, each
National Coordinator can organize a new type of tournament format: A
tournament only open to the best of the best (as determined by their
rating).

To be eligible for an invitation to the "Legendary Vampire
Tournament", you will have to have shown some serious skills and
therefore be part of the Top 25 Constructed Players of the organizing
country and/or Top 50 Constructed Players (world-wide).

The final rating will be taken exactly 60 days prior to the event. To
give newer players a chance to participate, however, each Prince can
organize a dedicated Tournament Qualifier. Winners of these events,
which will follow all the rules for Mini-Qualifiers, will also be
allowed to participate.

If 10 or more contestants participate in a given "Legendary Vampire
Tournament", the event will be legit - and all participants will
benefit from an increased rating coefficient of 1.25 (base)! The
winner of the tournament will be granted a free 1 year subscription to
VTES online and may participate in an online tournament with all the
other Legendary Vampires from around the world.

Location: Montpellier in the south of France, a beautiful town, in the
local haven of the association
*TERRA LUDIS*
2 ter, Boulevard de la Perruque
34000 MONTPELLIER

If you want to take part in this premier event and dare to challenge
the blood-drinking elite, contact: lege...@asso-jeux.fr Besides the
above mentioned free subscription, a number of other prizes await the
winners and participants. All through the day, food and drink will be
available in great quality and quantity: At minimum prices, but with
maximum satisfaction. So don't miss your chance to join the first ever
"Legendary Vampire Tournament".

A list of all "Legendary Players" eligible for an invitation to
Montpellier will be made available in the near future (thanks again to
Robyn for his amazing job in this regard).

Book your weekend in beautiful France and earn world-wide renown!

I started to wonder at the Prague EC when the small cards about this
tournament
were handed out - what is the purpose of this event?

Testing new waters. So the purpose is the same as for all other

Oh, great! The system which rates players according to how many large
tournaments they live near is now going to matter in something.

I think this game will someday implode in an epic silliness meltdown
that will astound the experts and confound future historians.

Except you can also run mini-qualifiers. Doom and gloom averted by
reading the whole thing!

It also matters for entering precisely one tournament. If you're not
travelling to other tournaments, you won't have a good rating - but
that's okay, since you *don't travel to tournaments* and this one is on
another continent to you. Crisis averted!

Playing a lot of tournaments and being active is definitely a
requirement of being a great V:tES player. And it's also a fact that
the players ranked top 50 are amazing players. So apparently the
ranking system is good for something.

Nice initiative! I hope it'll be a spectacular event.
I'm just sad you didn't start this a year ago when I was among the top
50.

To the contrary, I am perfectly free to rant against the random non-ratings
system in any thread in which it plays a substantive role. And it does
not imply criticism of the amount of work anyone did to organize their event.
Only their judgment.

Fred

I have nothing against the people who did a lot of work to organize it.

Are you trying to say that Fred isn't oppressed by the authoritarian
heirarchical system that he believes is no basis for a system of
government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the
masses, not from some farcical rating system.

The oppression of the individual is the basis for spiritual tyranny
and the crushing of the downtrodden.

Throw off your chains Fred! YOU BE YOU!

It's an invitational. Seems more natural for WW to be behind one,
though this shields WW from precisely these sorts of complaints.

Is it fair? Does it matter? V:TES isn't a money game and hasn't
displayed any sort of coherent rewards system. I'm a lot more
interested in missing the NAC storyline event than not qualifying for
this event.

Certainly a fairer way to go than an invitational based on Hall of
Fame status. Such an event wouldn't bother me either, I'd be more
amused than anything else.

Interesting news,
thanks for the info :-)
I find part of this similar to the italian mini-qualifier tour idea,
and i wish for it the same level of success we got in Italy
on the MQ tour.

my best wishes for the new event

We're in a bad enough recession as it is... the beer companies
couldn't take the hit in revenue, if Norm was someone else. This is
not to detract from your drinking skills, Fed, but I've met Norman
Brown... and you, sir, are no Norman Brown.
