Hi all,

We had 28 players for the Northeast Regional Qualifier at TempleCon
2009 at the Providence Biltmore in Providence, RI. Many of the decks
of the day were political based, as a lot of players were running the
newer KOT titled vamps, plus a number of players were running other
flavors of vote tech.

Final Standings:
1. John Eno 1gw, 5vp, 132tp, 3 final vp
2. Jay Aloia 2gw, 9vp, 1 final vp
2. Selen Turkay 2gw, 8.5vp, 174tp, 1 final vp
2. Ben Peal 2gw, 8.5vp, 174tp
2. Adam Hulse 2gw 6vp
(Note: Ben and Selen were tied for 2nd preliminary seed. Ben won the
coin flip for 2nd seed.)
6. Drace Zhan 1gw, 5vp, 126tp
7. Peter Jehlen 1gw, 4vp, 108tp
7. Dave Clooney 1gw, 4vp, 108tp
Greg Williams 1gw, 3.5vp
Todd Richter
Jesse Cross-Nickerson
Josh Feuerstein
Nik Lima
Jen Goldberg
John Whelan
Prescott Jenner
Amber Kanner
Ben Swainbank
Mark Danko
Sonam Adinolf
Norm Brown
Conor Richter
Cory Siegel
Brice Gallagher
Peter Kapsalis
Jess Warner
Tony Marcello
David Degarmo

Finals Seating:
Selen (Giovanni pot/nec/dom ranged combat) ->
Jay (pre/dom g4-5 cam vote) ->
Adam (ahrimanes vote) ->
John (!Ventrue intercept/toolbox) ->
Ben (Brujah breed/boon)

In the final round, Jay got vote lock on the table and ended up
locking horns with Ben over what votes he would allow Ben to pass.
Ben's solution was to let Selen run forward at Jay, but Ben ended up
being the first ousted by John. Jay managed to oust Adam(Adam was also
out-voted), but he left himself tapped out in front of Selen. Selen
ousted Jay with a string of Conditioning bleeds. It came down to John
vs. Selen, and John's permanent based combat won out over Selen's
ranged potence combat.

Qualified players from this event:
John Eno
Jay Aloia
Selen Turkay
Ben Peal
Adam Hulse
Drace Zhan
Peter Jehlen
Dave Clooney
Matt Hirsch (Organizer)
(Normally, with 28 players we would qualify the top 7. However, Peter
Jehlen and Dave Clooney tied for 7th place, and thus they both qualify
by VEKN rules.)

Photos are forthcoming. Adam Hulse has pictures on his digital camera,
and I took a bunch of pictures with a disposable camera. (My digital
camera was MIA)

Big thanks to Grant and Ximon for running another great TempleCon!
Also, thanks to White Wolf and Ben Peal for prize support.

See you in Atlanta,

-Matt H.

Some notes on the deck here:

Deck Name:  Patience Is a Virtue

Crypt:
2x Owain Evans
2x Blackhorse Evans
1x Mariel St. John
2x Solomon Batanea
1x Jephta Hester
1x Aredhel
1x Louis de Maisoneuve
1x Neighbor John
1x Maldavis

Apparently while writing down the decklist I thought that Owain and
Blackhorse had gotten married. I guess we know who's the top in that
relationship.

Before the finals, while showing the deck to Dave Clooney, he asked
why I don't have a second copy of Neighbor John in here. I didn't have
a good answer for him, and there should be one instead of Aredhel (I
didn't manage to use Erciyes Fragment to steal any cool Valeren cards
for her to use, weirdly enough).

Library: (90 cards)
Master (16 cards)
1x Anarch Troublemaker
4x Blood Doll
1x Corporate Hunting Ground
1x Demonstration
1x Erciyes Fragments
1x From a Sinking Ship
1x KRCG News Radio
1x Pentex Subversion
2x Smiling Jack
2x Vessel
1x WHRM Talk Radio

I never got to play a Sinking Ship. It's a good card in theory, since
this deck can often get people down to a low amount of pool and then
have a hard time ousting them, but in practice it's probably better
swapped out for something more consistently useful.

Smiling Jack never really did much for me all day, but it's also good
in theory.

Action (7 cards)
5x Govern the Unaligned
2x Revelations

Revelations at superior is fantastic. I'm always surprised not to see
more people using this card.

Action Modifier (6 cards)
4x Conditioning
2x Crocodile's Tongue

Both Crocodile's Tongues were discarded all day long. They should be
replaced with Seductions (or Daring the Dawn, if you're feeling full
of beans).

Reaction (30 cards)
4x Eagle's Sight
4x Enhanced Senses
4x Eyes of Argus
4x Forced Awakening
2x My Enemy's Enemy
4x On the Qui Vive
2x Precogntion
2x Spirit's Touch
4x Telepathic Misdirection

Combat (23 cards)
2x Hidden Strength
2x Indomitability
4x Resilience
4x Rolling With the Punches
4x Soak
2x Unflinching Persistence
5x Weighted Walking Stick

A lot of prevention cards , but that allowed me to Doll/Vessel my guys
down to almost nothing and use that blood to bring out more guys,
which worked very well all day long.

Ally (2 cards)
1x Gregory Winter
1x Young Bloods

Neither of these guys really shone for me during the tournament, but
there have definitely been times that I was glad to have them in the
past.

Equipment (6 cards)
1x Bowl of Convergence
1x Heart of Nizchetus
1x Palatial Estate
3x Sawed-Off Shotgun

Shotguns mostly make the combat work. I've been very happy to not have
my actions to acquire them get blocked.

It also occurred to me during one game that the Heart and Blackhorse
go very well together, as you can use his ability during the "draw
three cards" portion of the Heart's ability (I think).

-1 WWS and -1 Govern = 4cl! Any reason why you didn't do this (other
than wanting more cards that are effective, over scouting mission and
target vitals)?

I dunno, man. Because it's not a 4CL game, I guess? :)
