My strategy is rather simple:
* Drain his max HP or level to 0.
* Heal when Kaen teleports away to heal.
Some notes:
* Sorry if your setup doesn't support DECgraphics. I forgot to turn
them off again.
* The beginning is a bit messy. Usually Kaen wakes up and teleports to
me after two or three turns on his level. I meant to mention that in
the video. Please don't disregard the strategy because of the
beginning, it went unusually sour.
* My equipment is +4/+5 helm of brilliance, gauntlets of dexterity,
robe, and jumping boots. I had some protection but lost it due to a bad
prayer.
Feedback would be great. In particular, I'd like some ideas for more
videos. What exactly do you folks want to see done? My email is
sarN...@gmHACKail.com (remove the name of the game we play) if you
have any questions that you don't want to post to rgrn.
Here's a link to the first video (clearing the Castle with the
drawbridge) if you missed it:

Excellent, thanks for this! I have enjoyed playing monks but have yet
to attempt the quest. In various games so far, I've made it to XL 14
but have avoided the quest because I have heard such nasty things about
Kaen. Then of course I die anyway, usually in some Gehennom stupidity.
Next time I will tackle Kaen, now that I have a good way of doing it.

Well, I suppose the other quests wouldn't be quite so interesting,
since Kaen is supposed to be the hardest one, but I would still watch
them quite eagerly.
I have the feeling that if I knew what ttyrec's to ask for, I wouldn't
need them any more. :)
Here's an idea geared more at newer players: how to descend into the
mines at XL 1 or 2 and let your pet do the killing for you. This is
something I've gotten much much better at lately but it mystified me
for a long time.
thanks,
Gretta
