An Elf Wizard this time.
Turn 1: He puts on his ring of slow digestion. Kitten is hit by a rock
and is killed. Nooooooooo! Oh well no time to mourn.
Turn 2: The other ring is polymorph and IMHO isn't worth putting on.
So take a step SouthWest.
Blinded by a flash of light. Gah! That probably made a bunch of
nasties around him. Well lets hope to get out of here.
Turn 3: He hits it. And gets hit by four nasties.
DYWYPI
Killed by a fox.
Oh well on to another char.
Has anyone had a shorter game (other than fleeing up the stairs too
early).
I remember that there have been quite some turn=1 and even turn=0 deaths
reported here; a rare artifact that blasts you on the starting spot while
autopickup is activated would be one, unsuccessfully mounting a steed seems
to be a more common one.
Janis
they aren't to be underestimated, even in the real world. they're survivors.

once... my first step put me on a land-mine which exploded and dropped
me into a pit of poisoned spikes. "game over, man. game over!" it was
one of those things that makes you want to play Starcraft more.
That's impossible. You can never get spiked pits on level 1.
I'd always avoided playing a knight, but a while ago I thought I'd try.
I start, and there's my saddled pony.

You fall off.

A lesson learned in 2 turns.

How about the time when I had played Nethack for about one week end
didn't know what a scroll of earth does? I started a Monk who had one
and decided to read it (first turn).
"The ceiling rumbles above you! You are hit by a boulder! You die..."
I would expect (haven't checked the source, though) that you always land
on a free (non-trap) space as it is with teleports.

Can land mines even leave spiked pits? Or does a land mine
explosion always leave a plain pit? Or is the spikiness not
determined until a monster falls into it?

A lot of monsters can't hurt you if you aren't next to them.
Try killing them from a distance.
All the best, Jove
Landmines are only created on level 6 or below and do not leave spiked
pits.

Today is Oneiros, February.
Not in two turns, but in zero turns. There is a bug in NetHack: falling
while mounting does not take any time. Therefore this is the most easy
way to get the "You die... Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 zorkmids"
-message.
This reminds me of my another short game few years ago. I was a Knight,
found a spellbook from the first upstairs, read it of course and got
paralysed. A bunch of grid bugs killed me, while I was helpless.

I don't think landmines create spiked pits, just regular vanilla pits.
