Is the chance dependent on dungeon level?
My vampiric barbarian has failed. Got himself converted at the minetown altar (funny, Mitra won't let me pray to her even though she's perfectly happy). Now I'm going to see if I can get some lucky rogue to find his bones pile.
AoR, the wallet of perseus, a +5 bat from hell, CoMR, and an unused magic lamp, all ready for the taking.

And for the daring you can leave a suggestion as to how he should die. Reverse genocide newts and wait 1000 turns while wearing no armor?

[Please don't just ask a question in the subject. It's just
confusing. I wondered what chance you were talking about
until I reexamined the subject. I added that above.]

It is. See http://nethackwiki.com/wiki/Bones#Ineligible_bones_levels
(That's for vanilla NetHack; you seem to be talking about
SLASH'EM? Might have wanted to specify that, too. Though
I don't know whether the chance is actually different there.)

Some more fun ways to die:
- killed by dangerous winds
- killed by a residual undead turning effect
- went to heaven prematurely
- drowned in a drowning
- killed by Death
- killed by a psychic blast
- killed by overexertion
- squished under a boulder
- killed by sitting on an iron spike
- killed by leg damage from being pulled out of a bear trap

Some of these might be more annoying than others to do.
Still, they're better than "killed by a newt". :)

Sorry for ressurecting a fairly old post: but mind you I did find a few of those funny.
Ironically, my character can no longer be killed by Death. Does that mean he is immortal?
"Dangerous winds" sounds an awful lot like an air elemental. Or is it Delphi?
If you wanted to know it turns out he died a sad death after getting fried to a crisp from eating 6 freshly tamed pets. Apparently Mitra does not appreciate cruelty against animalkind and my pleas for protection were summarily ignored.

Stop levitating while over a Sokoban pit, and die from the damage.

While _in_ one, technically. It only does d2 damage.
Combined with just getting in normally doing some damage
(usually more, IIRC), it can be somewhat annoying to get
if you don't have a way to get your HP down while inside
the pit.

As this also allows you to touch a footrice corpse that
way, it allows for a really uncommon death in GruntHack,
too ("petrified by being blown into a cockatrice corpse").

The relevant code is in src/trap.c, lines 2384 and below
(2657 in GruntHack), in case anyone wants to look up the details.
