Killed a cockatrice,
leaving statues in my wake,
'til the fatal pit...
Cat's so cute! Although
skilled at larceny, who could
get mad at Fluffy?
Master Kaen! Hundreds
lie broken 'round the deadly
feet of Masta Kaen!
At last, the Wizard!
Oh no! He used touch of death!
Want your stuff I.D'd?
Angry Moloch fires
a disintegration beam!
"I believe it not!"
What lucid dungeon
explorer would prepare for
lack of gravity?
'top the scores: "escaped
in celestial disgrace,"
Aye, a story's there.

Leave pick-axe outside?
Meet Yellow dragon, Slasher
Thank you for your stuff.
The cockatrice hits!
You feel yourself slowing down.
You turn to stone. --More--
Okay so the --More-- is a bit of a cheat. Anyone care to do better?
Malcolm
Oh, that one's good. Can't think of any off the top of my head,
although I was kind of pleased with realizing "I believe it not!" is
five syllables.

One small floating eye
Can ruin your entire game.
Size is relative.
Look! An unknown wand!
I'll just store it in my bag...
Where did my stuff go?
Scary, evil foes --
Just one "Burp!" and they're no more.
Praise the purple worm!
One who runs away
Lives to fight another day.
Engrave Elbereth!
My black battle blade!
Drains life from those who draw near...
"Whoops! My finger slipped!"
Artemis the Ranger
On the contrary, I think the --More-- makes it all the better as a
Nethack haiku; think of it as being in the nature of a fifth season-word.

You don't actually get the "You turn to stone" message from the 'trice's
stoning attack. The final two messages that you do get are five
syllables each, though:
You have turned to stone.
You are a statue.
