I'm pleased to announce the revival of the five-year-old GruntHack project with the release of GruntHack 0.2.0 alpha 1.

There have been many, many changes; I believe the changes between the original NetHack 3.4.3 and the GruntHack 0.1.x series have been surpassed in number by the changes between GruntHack 0.1.x and this release.

The major high-level changes include:
* A completely revised monster spellcasting system, drawing from the player's pool of spells instead of their own;
* A few additional levels, such as new demon strongholds in Gehennom and some additional Sokoban puzzles;
* More third-party patches, mostly for convenience (it now contains roughly the same interface feature set as nethack.alt.org, less a few things such as the Curses interface); and
* Many general improvements of existing behaviour, such as monsters being able to use more items.

The full changelog can be found in the distributions.

You may find the source code here:

https://github.com/downloads/sgrunt/GruntHack/grunthack-020a1-src.txz

I've also built Win32 and DOS binaries, available here:

Win32: https://github.com/downloads/sgrunt/GruntHack/grunthack-020a1-win.zip

DOS: https://github.com/downloads/sgrunt/GruntHack/GH2A1DOS.ZIP

As you may have guessed from the above URLs, you should now be able to track GruntHack development through the GitHub repository I have recently created at:

https://github.com/sgrunt/GruntHack/

(Presumably, I would be using the issues tracker there for bug reporting and the like.)

Feedback is encouraged! I can usually be found hanging around #nethack on irc.freenode.net; if there is enough interest I may also hang around #grunthack on the same network.

Happy GruntHacking!

I'm pleased to further report the availability of a GruntHack public server at grunthack.org, accessible via telnet (or through two web Telnet clients available at http://grunthack.org/).

Live reporting is courtesy of GruntBot in #grunthack on irc.freenode.net.

Happy GruntHacking!
