Subject: New Windows version of Moria
Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a new version of Moria.  I call it Moria 5.0 FB edition.

As most of you know Umoria was was based on the Unix conversion of the old
VMS Vax source code version 4.7/4.8.

A 5.0 version of Moria for the VMS VAX was written at the University of
Buffalo.

However as far as I know none of the current PC versions of Moria are based
on this version. And outside of the University of Buffalo, no one has seen
this version, until today.

The PASCAL source code is however available.

I just spent 26 days doing a conversion.  I just release my Beta 1 today.
It's still a bit buggy, and will be a lot better, and bug free I hope in
about a week or two.  Downloader beware, save games for the Beta may not
work on the final version of 5.0.

If anyone is interested, go over to http://games.tcshouston.net and
download the Beta 1a.

Keep in mind this is a Work in Progress.

Many features added to Umoria do not exist in 5.0 Buffalo version.

My 5.0 FB version has reworked save games, allowing you to load the same
save game as many times as your want.  10 save slots per profile, 240
profiles.

However I've assinged a Uniquie ID to each character, so they can only be
on the high score list once.

You can die a thousand times, but only your very highest score will be on
the high score list.

Once I get the bugs ironed out of I'll be working on a 5.1 release that
will be a much more modern version of Moria.  I'll bump up the screen res,
add a mini map, a message display box that can be used with the mouse wheel
to scroll, so you can stop hitting "MORE"

Then my 6.0 release sometime in 2011-2012 will be a complete graphics
update, sound, background music, limited speech, spell animation etc.  I
will need graphic artist help for the 6.0 release.   Anyone want to help?

6.0 will support big screens, widescreens, maybe multi monitor support...

I won't be getting to Diablo quality graphics.  At least I don't plan too!
But I want to modernize one of the first games I played back in high school
and early college in the 80's.

For those that have play the Amiga version, think a highres version of
that, with a lot more animation.

Bottomline, I don't want to change the game play, just update the graphics,
controls, for a modern PC.  You will always be able to play with the
keyboard, but wouldn't it be nice to click on a square and your character
goes there?  Or you right click on a door and menu pops up, "BASH,
Open,..."  Or you right click on a Creature, you get, "Aim wand, attack,
Bash, throw...."  Or just left click on a Creature and you attack...

Anyway, check out the Beta, let me know what you think!  It will be years
before I'm done working on this game!

Looks pretty cool!  I don't have a PC to check it out, but activity on
the Moria development front is always a good thing.
