In my quest to port Moria to the web (http://www.foont.net/moria) I am
looking to add color to the game. I have the source for a color
version for the PC but it uses a limited color set and some of the
color choices are a bit harsh. The old Mac Moria version that I used
to play when I was younger was in color and used much subtler colors.
It was a nice effect, but I can't find the source for that anywhere.

Does anyone know where to find either the entire source for the old
Mac Moria or a description of the colors used?

It had colors, but I don't remember them as being very exciting.

Like this?

http://beej.us/moria/files/mac/MacMoria5.5d.src.sea.hqx.gz

Gzip'ed, bin-hex, self-extracting archive. Woohoo. That is a skillz
test just to crack open. Unstuffit on a modern Mac might be able to
do it after a few passes. The SEA is apparently Compact Pro based.
macutils on linux is another good choice.

used tar / gzip all the time in those days ("suntar" and "macgzip")

Neato. Now that you mention it I think I downloaded this at one point
before I knew that I actually needed something from it and didn't try
hard enough to get it extracted. I may have to bust out my old
powerbook G4 with Classic and see if I can open it. Or macutils, you
say...

Thanks,

Brian,

I just went to your site and looked at your web version of Moria.
Very cool. I grew up playing moria and still fire it up
occasionally. I love that it is still alive and has a following.

Hey, thanks. I'm hoping that making it a bit more accessible (no
downloading or compiling necessary) will revive a little interest in
the game, even though it's very long in the tooth compared to more
recent roguelikes.
