Wow--I guess this proves the news server I use has a spam filter. I
looked at this newsgroup in GG and all the spam is there. What a
nightmare...

I use nntp.aioe.org and have seen no spam in this group...

mind you, I haven't seen any POSTS in this group for months.

Mind you I haven't played Moria in even longer...

Bah. I should fire it up again.

That's interesting, I didn't know there were ways to access this now
other than trhough Google groups. I had never been involved in a
Usenet group before. 25 years old here and didn't use the internet
for the first time until maybe 1998

The short of it is:

1) Usenet has been around in some form since 1979
2) The World Wide Web was announced in 1991 (on Usenet. :) )
3) DejaNews archived Usenet posts starting in 1995
4) Google was incorporated in 1998
5) Google bought DejaNews in 2001
6) Google added its own "Groups" to its Usenet interface

The rest of us access Usenet through various news servers with a
protocol called NNTP. Some people frown on Google Groups users, but I'm
not one of them; seems like a perfectly fine Usenet interface to me.

I haven't played moria in a very long time. But I've played angband and a
few
variants for about the a year. Been thinking about moria and thought I would
give it
a try. Maybe finally get a win...

what is the most recent version?
what is the ideal end game eq?
what is recommended dive speed?
how deep is stat gain?

Moria fans might do well to check out Mines of Morgoth as they are
literally the target audience for the first time since Angband.
www.minesofmorgoth.com I never could sort through the complicated
path of Umoria to figure out what's what and where it is all heading...

Seconded. I use this provider and like it just fine.
