I just installed Moria from DarwinPorts on my Mac and it's good to get
back to Moria. It's been so long, I can't remember what Character
Class(es) I used to like. I'm thinking I might like Paladin but was
just curious what people thought.
Icky
I remember the Elf Ranger being a combo that was heavily used by other
family members - that class had infravision, spell casting and
fighting ability in combination, making it quite powerful. Of course,
that version implemented weapons of "Godly Might", which would have
given all character classes great fighting ability.
I preferred mages, because they didn't have a too severe hit to
fighting power in my opinion (although they did start with low
strength.)
I have a method that works well for me: Elf Mage, but when rolling,
make sure the initial INT stat is around 18/20. Once the race and
class bonuses are added, the character will begin life with 18/50 or
more INT, which means not only mana * 1.5, but also learning spells at
1.5 times the normal rate! And since the first successful casting of
a spell grants more experience, the character advances rather quickly
to a useful level (for me, that is to be able to cast Identify at
will).
The only drawback to this character is usually a REALLY low STR, but
since HTH combat is not needed (ever), this only really affects how
much can be carried in the pack. While I'm rolling, I try to hitch a
STR score of around 12 with the high INT requirement.
