The new version of DoomRL got me curious, and for better or for worse,
it has become my primary mode of Thesis Avoidance. :) I've beaten HMP
a few times and won a couple of the Angel challenges (shotgun and light
travel), but have had a lot of trouble getting anywhere with melee combat
or on Ultra-Violence. In the NetHack and Crawl worlds, I would go and
watch ttyrecs in order to see how other people handled it. I searched
YouTube but didn't find much. I know there are DoomRL forums, and I've
poked at them a bit; YAVPs are better than nothing, but if there's an
archive of recordings out there, I'd absolutely love to see it.
(If I could get it to play nicely with dgamelaunch, I'd be tempted,
but I haven't had luck and don't have time to do a whole lot of work
due to that thesis I'm avoiding. :) There's also the sound issue.)
Thank you,

Some posters at chaosforge forums attach ttyrecs to their posts.
I still remember reading about Kornel increasing max attachment size.
You may be required to register to be able to see them though. :-(

I'll poke around, thanks. You do need to register
in order to see attachments, but I don't mind doing so;
http://forum.chaosforge.org/index.php/topic,2072.0.html has a strategy
guide that I've been looking through, though so far it doesn't have any
screenshots or maps.
Thank you,

By the way, how do you search ttyrecs for Crawl needed to resolve a
particular problem? What are the common places to search and the
common work flow?
Thanks!
With best regards,
Ivan.
Much as I love DoomRL, I wouldn't bet that any active effort goes on to
make sure the highest difficulties are possible. :-)

Today is Stilday, October - a weekend.
Tomorrow will be Gorgonzoladay, October - a weekend.
I think some of the players would beat Kornel up if he didn't make them
at least *theoretically* possible; several of the Challenge modes have
been beaten on N! difficulty :)

Well, what I do is use the functions of the IRC bot Henzell in ##crawl
on freenode --- it lets you search through game logs by character type,
player, and milestones like runes or entering branches. The !lm (list
milestone) command also has a -tv option, which queues up the ttyrecs for
play over at termcast.org. So you don't even have to download anything!
Unfortunately, this is only accessible via IRC. It's on my wishlist to
make it web-accessible as well but it is unlikely to happen anytime
soon, so I recommend popping onto IRC briefly. People there will be able
to help with the specific commands, not all of which I remember. :)
Hope this helps,
