Nearly extinct :)

This is impressive!

I am sure they are. And even though we are trying to make Crawl fun
without spoilers, I know that many players appreciate spoilers.

Thanks for the great source of information! I was searching exactly
for these formulas and calculations to understand what's going on
better.

Could you please provide references to the source code as well, if
possible? Something like "AC calculations is based on ac-calc.cc file
mostly". It would be a great help for beginner sourcedivers!

Thanks again!

With best regards,

This is TOTALLY great. I don't really consider this information
"spoilers" since it covers mechanics which heavily impact gameplay.

That's probably the best encouragement I could ever hear, thank you
very much ! :)

To be honest, I can't remember each file I've used to make every
spoiler (sometimes a spoiler file gather informations from 10 to 20
different source files)...
For a start, the main files I've used are:
# crawlSS_052_food.txt: food.cc
# crawlSS_052_gods.txt: religion.cc
# crawlSS_052_items.txt: makeitem.cc
# crawlSS_052_jewellery.txt: item_use.cc
# crawlSS_052_misc.txt: it_use3.cc, decks.cc
# crawlSS_052_potions.txt: it_use2.cc
# crawlSS_052_scrolls.txt: item_use.cc
# crawlSS_052_EVAC.txt: player.cc
# crawlSS_052_armours.txt: itemprop.cc
# crawlSS_052_experience.txt: player.cc
# crawlSS_052_start.txt: newgame.cc
# crawlSS_052_stealth.txt: player.cc

Thanks a lot! I've already started to sourcedive :)

Awesome. You have just brought at least one player back to Crawl, probably
hundreds. Thank you.

Just one niggle: the link to the rar archive isn't working ...

The link is fixed, thank you!

As this link seemed to have problems for some reason, I removed it;
sorry about that. Direct access to the text files still works, though.

Hi R1, I tried emailing you some corrections but the address in those
text files is bouncing for me. So I'll put them here. Thanks for
writing these, they're quite helpful.

books.txt
* Memorization restrictions: you can memorize spells as long as you
have one level in any spell school (which you can get as a Wanderer,
or with a manual)
* being hit while trying to memorize a spell interrupts the
memorization process

mutations.txt
* Losing mutations: drawing a "Potion" card from an Ornate/Legendary
deck of Wonders/Changes can give you Cure Mutation. (somewhat
redundant, but could be nice to know for a Nemelex follower who's full
of mutations...)

species.txt
* Yellow Draconians don't need to wait any time between breath
attacks

weapons.txt
* Quarterstaves and lajatangs can be wielded with a shield, although
they suffer a big penalty. (I think it's half damage?) I don't know
about magical staves, since you don't get any in-game warning about
them when wielding them with a shield.

food.txt
* You can berserk when Hungry - Near Starving if you do it using the
spell.

pan.txt
* Lugonu's "Enter the Abyss" ability doesn't work in Pan.

stealth.txt
* the "Armour Mass" table mentioned isn't in this file, I think it
was supposed to be?

Thank you for all these corrections! I've updated the spoilers
accordingly.

As it looks like my former email adress doesn't work anymore; I've
replaced it with my (hopefully permanent) gmail adress.

Just a note:

I haven't found this in the source, and when trying in wizard mode,
it looks like having magic skills with no Spellcasting is not
sufficient to memorize spells. Did I get what you meant wrong?

Ah, too bad. Glad you checked here :)

I don't think so? You do also need to be at least XL2 (to get 1 level
of memorization, since you get none from spellcasting.) For me if I
start a game in wizard mode, set e.g. Ice Magic to level 1, gain an
experience level, then give myself a book of frost, I can memorize the
spell Freeze and cast it at "Fair" without wearing any equipment.

You're right, I forgot to go over level 1 in my test (and found where
it came from in the source), sorry about that ;)
