I'm not sure if I can play powder after losing "puck". He was the
perfect rogue. Diligent in the arts of acid, possession,
teleportation, ranged attacks, disarm and bleeding any monsters stupid
enough to get in his way. He seemed to be blessed from the beginning,
and loved by the majority of gods. Donning adventurers gear shunning
"clogs of speed" that cried for his attention he quickly pleased
QUIZZAR who saved him from many a scrap. By level 11 he polymorphed
an unwanted ring into a ring of invisible so he could pick and chose
foes. The minotaur was easily dispatched from a distance with the 30+
spears, knifes and daggers "puck" had accumulated. Although very
tense and afraid, "puck" traversed the levels 16 to 19 mostly using
"blink" to avoid tumultuous conflict. "Puck" utilised "possess" in
order to command and slay most of the guardian tridudes. He was
stupid enough to try a meticulously planned corrosive explosion on the
golden tridude. This killed all the visible minions but did not
effect the intendee. Not to be deferred by this failure, "puck" threw
many a projectile weapon at the golden tridude until he/she fell upon
the weight of all that steel.

Now comes the start of the fall. The Belwier library intrigued
"puck". That is until all of "puck"'s good rings just disappeared
into the ether. I must admit, this is when I lost hope in his
chances. "puck" left the library beaten and with a death wish. After
all, anything after this was just borrowed time. So long story short,
he kicked ass, smashed through the orcs, and totally annihilated
beelzebub without any trouble. It was on ascent that he fell into a
pit and was concurrently challenged by H'ruth to "prove your worth".
Long story short, the surrounding army poked and smashed at "puck"
while he exercised in futility at trying to escape the hole. Blinking
failed to work for some reason.

Now I'm done with POWDER (a game I thought so much better than any of
the rogue-likes I've tried - CRAWEL, NETHACK, ECT...) and am trying
Rogue Touch on my Iphone. I just can't get over puck.

Wow, puck was really impressive character! Rarely one has so much
good stuff pile up in one game. What a pity. :-(

I undestand you very well. The same happened to my dark eleven
wizard. He was very close to victory but died a stupid death. I have
not touched ADOM since. Fortunately new DoomRL came out.

You had the demonic heart of HWCBSP with you. It has 'position fixed'.
You need to drop it to teleport first. Then you could kill the mob and
recover the heart.

POWDER is a great game without doubt. I am thinking about getting back
to ADOM in future. Passing time helps greatly. Perhaps you will pick up
POWDER again.

Yeah, it was truly a once in life time run. There wasn't a single
additional item I needed by the time I reached the library and lost
them all to the alters.

Aha! If I'd just have thought of that at the time...

Yeah, I was just upset when I wrote the post. I will undoubtedly turn
back to Powder again. But not until I've dabbled a bit more in some
of the other rogue-likes out there. I'm currently giving iNetHack a
go on my Touch. I personally find I have much more time for portable
rogue-likes, which is why I chose Powder to be my first (on DS). If
someone ported Powder for use on the IPhone (with iSave) I would never
put it down.

This one, and, if I remember correctly, you have to see where you want
to blink. If you are in a hole, you just the the hole's walls...

If you have a DS, you can also play NetHackDS http://frodo.dyn.gno.org/~brettk/NetHackDS,
Faangband http://angband.oook.cz/faangband/, and an old version of
Crawl(has bug when choosing a mini map location e.g. controlled
teleport) http://errabes.free.fr/pogo2/ . I tried NetHack on the
iphone and was not crazy about the controls. Faangband works great
once you have customised the controls.
