During the late hours I probably should've been sleeping, I came across the wiki page about lich transformation. Needless to say, I caught myself toying with the idea, while downing my fourth coffee at work to stay awake.
I decided to go for it when I got home, after going through the advantages and disadvantages for the 31st time. I got up to 3 zombies placed, in a closed room, etc until I reached starving point. I was already at 7 HP (from killing stuff to make zombies) and had 28 mana (two less than what's needed for Raise Dead + Dark Ritual) . I spent 20 on Major Heal and BARELY made it back alive into the room. I killed maybe 5-6 creatures before even getting a single corpse, not to mention I had to eat a few just to regenerate enough mana to create a zombie and go through the transformation while simultaneously having my mind slowed by random gods. TWICE. Most of what I encountered was strong enough to kick my ass seven ways to Sunday. I solved this problem by spamming the crap out of my numerous teleport wands, especially on an annoying ghost that kept coming back into the room, through the northern wall.
After all the trouble I went through, I have my remaining zombie stay (Mouse Zombie, because I was just that desperate). I remove my amulet of unchanging and Cast Dark ritual. I throw a random item at the ceiling and.....
I die.
I save scum (angrily) and remove my Hellm of warning Smashyyz (which ALSO grants Unchanging) and repeat the above steps and...
I turn into a lich!
Basking in my unholy awesomeness, I level up, take a step and realize that my Helm of warning Smashyyz is searing me since it's paired with the silver circlet item. Same thing for my...
Ring of fire resistance..
So even after the ridiculous amount of thought I put into the transformation, I didn't really thing about the weakness to fire, since I had a ring to counter it. But of course, the fire resistance had to be paired with the SILVER ring for this game.
So I'm going to assume my only option to cover my weakness to fire is to artifact-hunt until I find something with grants the correct intrinsic, since I can't eat appropriate corpses either.

P.S. I forgot to mention why I've scummed the second time... Well, I can thank my cat, Umbra for taking a nap on my notebook's keyboard while I was afk (making dinner). The funny thing is, she made my character take a nap as well, since her ass must have been spamming [R] or something. There are many good places to rest in Powder. Right smack in front of the Golden Tridude is NOT one of them.

Can't really help. I took a very simplistic view of the game; most enemies cannot move diagonally, so being dressed like a barbarian allows me to kill those monsters with impunity, and get away when I need to. Don't have to worry about magic to use, don't have to worry about weakness to fire, screwing around as a Lich, nothing. Just simple killing. =D

I think your best option is to find a reflective necklace, and avoid fire. Of course finding the right artifact will help, but don't count on it. The reflection will help against dragons and smart monsters with wands, and if the monster casting fireball is close enough it may bounce off you and blow up far enough away to not hurt. But I'd say just assume fire res is not gonna be an option. If you get it, it's cake for you. Otherwise, beware the fire and go Undead on those monsters!
