What are those moments that you really enjoy about playing angband?
Not so much the woot-I-just-found-ringil times, but stuff that just
amuses you.
Here's my list

- Buying a bunch of arrows from a store, branding them with Tenser's
and then selling them back. Instant profit. Really felt like I'd
beaten the system. Sadly by the time I'd got Tenser's I didn't need
money any more, but its a moral victory.
- Activating the amulet of Ingwe in an orc pit and exploding the lot
of them all over the place. Totally unnecessary as I could easily
fight them all, but big explosions are fun (and saves a lot of time)
- Reading a scroll of aggravate monster just before recall kicks in.
I love the idea of a level full of really angry monsters all running
about looking for the source of the noise.
- Shooting a big monster full of arrows, then running in a circle so I
can pick up the same arrows and shooting it again.
- Immunity to a big monster's breath weapon is also fun as you can do
what you like at range and it can't hurt you.
- I try really hard not to kill the townsfolk. Some of those guys
try equally hard to get themselves killed. I really enjoyed it when I
got high enough level that they all just run away from me now.
- Some of the combinations of messages are funny. Recalling to a
level 'you feel this level is safe' and turning up in a pack of
dreads. I think I've had things like 'you find a trap on the chest' -
more- 'you no longer feel safe from evil'.

how about you lot?

- (very old) Beating Morgoth to death wielding my bow instead of my
melee-weapon.
- Chasing some unique that flees killed Balrog of Moria "because it was
in a way" without realizing that it was a unique.
- Wondering what kind of new ego-item is "Boots of Feanor".
- Getting two CGV:s in single level.
- Killing Troll-unique escorts without waking up any of them and leaving
unique itself alive and asleep imagining its horror when it wakes up.
- Beating Dragon pit wearing appropriate immunity.
- Using Dispel Evil inside Demon Pit.
- Being able to do that same in deep Graveyard.
- Luring some "too dangerous to deal with" monsters out of Crown Lesser
Vault and then teleporting to other side to get in it.
- Clearing up Demon and Angel explosions.

I also sometimes chase some monster that is waaay lower level than I am
just to see how long it takes for it to run into dead end, then leave it
alive.

My favorite is when I detect loot near something far nastier than I am. I go
for the loot anyway, and race to a trapdoor, taking hits from bystanders as I
run past.

Heh. (IIRC, it took Timo years and years to find these (with many a
comment how they must be some mythical item since he's never seen them).
So, naturally, when he finally finds them he just can't comprehend what
they are... :-)

I once found BDSM very early in the game (first trip into the
dungeon), went down some stairs into a room full of novice priests,
which could easily kill me, as a weedy lvl6 mage...

You enter a maze of down staircases.
This seems a quiet, peaceful place.
You breathe lightning.
The Novice priest dies. <12x>
Welcome to level 7.
You can learn 4 more spells.
The Novice priest dies.

[I blogged it at the time, hence still having the transcript]

- Playing Posband as a spider and transforming from being a weakling
that can hardly hurt anything to an uber-being which sticks things in
webs, paralyzes them and eats them, fearing nothing. Except breaths
(taking on Scatha was a bad idea).
- The messages - I think seeing the borg playing and reading the
messages ("You *smite* the Village idiot! The Village idiot dies.") was
what first got me interested in the game.
- Killing monsters and finding artifacts that I'd only read about in the
newsgroup.
- Hitting the townsfolk with Grond.
- Using a wand of polymorph as a last resort against a line of orcs, and
turning the front one into a mold.
- Not me, but a while ago several people playing FA were having a
contest to see who could get the best comedy kill, by beating a monster
almost to death and then throwing a wand at it.

I think that started when I was trying to be the first non-mage to
kill a unique with Keleks - by throwing it at it. Sadly it didn't do
any damage, so I resorted to throwing potions of Life - which i
thought would also be pretty funny. Unfortunately it survived the
potions, but wasn't quite so lucky when I threw a staff...
