If you go into debug mode you can get the list .Press Control-A and when it
asks you for a command, then press ". (no period) You will be given a list of
options. They are from an older version when "Essesences" were called
"Batteries". Choose "Batteries and you've got a spoiler list.
I've just started an alchemist myself, They are very interesting even though
very hard in the begining and I imagina at the end.

Not really, since they can *easily* make bombs, i.e. potions
of detonation. They raise up to 10,000 each, and can be created
from essences of explosion. You can get these from wands of
Magic missile. So this means that they have 1. Virtually unlimited
gold, 2. A powerful weapon, not just at the beginning, but all through
the game. The only serious problem with these potions are if a
breather, like fire or frost, can explode these potions, usually
causing death. Also, if you're really careless, you can kill yourself
too (like quaffing them).

I should have been clearer. What I meant was at the *very* begining of the
game, before one can afford or find a wand of magic missile. In my experience
at least - not long I admit - this very early part of the game is hard. I also
cannot see Alchemists as they are now defeating Sauron, Morgoth, and a host of
other deep monsters. But they are interesting and fun.

Rods of Havoc can also be easily made (although it takes a bit more work).
I always carry around a wand of teleport other (as an alchemist) and a
couple of potions of detonation. I also use a vampiric weapon.

Alchemists start with a Essence of Explosion, so you can sell a Potion of
Detonation directly, than create some Vampiric Weapons and so on.So you
don't need to kill anything, before you can afford nearly everything you
want. Where's the Problem?

Suggestion, you start the game with an essence of explosion, and an
empty bottle, make potion of detonation, sell for ~5000gp. Which gives
you a stake to play with. By the time one of my alchemists hits 50', he
has a dragon weapon, gloves of slaying, and a few other goodies. :O)
Not to mention about 20000 gp depending on how many satisfy hunger
scrolls and teleport scrolls there are.
I'd add a Helmet of Light, so you can forget about Lamps.

Ta. *grin* I found them about 5 mins after I made the original post :PPP.
What are the chances of adding a couple more essences? Essence of speed
would be nice. Essence of detection would also be pretty cool. To counter
the problem of ppl making multiple boots of speed, set the essence
requirement pretty high.
There are Bugs, that let you get an infinite number of essences, at the
moment you fin your second. So that wouldn't help at the moment. But then
again, it's Pern, don't worry about Balance.

Having just started an alchemist for amusement value (still running
with my Symbiant as primary), I'm not thrilled with the hat. I think
I'll be carrying a lantern in addition, just for the radius.
So, Defender hand weapon & Dragon boomerang, or the other way around?

You start with an empty bottle and an essense of explosion, combine them to make a
potion of detonnation and sell it for about 10k gold, now who can't buy a wand of
magic
missile ? :)
As for the deep uniques ... wait to get artifact creation :)
I may not be the balance incarnate, essenses of speed are .. mhhh ..
OH BTW the bugs have been squeltched :)
About 25% of my alchemists start in towns which stock no magic missile
wands. I've had one start out with NOTHING useful stocked.
It's like playing a posessor and finding that no useful monsters are
dropping corpses.
Or there was the time I was playing a posessor, killed Maggot, got his
corpse, went down a couple of stairs, got a quest to kill 9 dark-elven
mages, killed two, got the body, switched to it and started cleaning up --
and then my computer crashed.
DE Mages are *definitely* very cool, especially that early in the game.

Just read the Spoiler, seems you can make Boots and Rings of Speed with 13
essences of Time. Or has that been changed since the Spoiler was written?
