Hi All,
I'm trying to play angband 3.1.1 on my Linux system using the gcu interface.
My screen reader, Speakup, has serious problems with the map as it appears
by default. I can distinguish my character easily, but the other objects
and terrain are all uniformly unreadable.
Is there an option I can use to go back to the old style ASCII interface?
I've searched around the options menu with little success thus far.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best and thanks,
Zack.

The setting you are looking for is in lib/pref/font-gcu.prf

I seem to recall finding out that this was buried in a file with a name
something like font-x11.prf for X11 -- thanks to helpful people in the
#angband channel.

That file defined alternative symbols or character codes to use for a
few terrain features. Copying the default file into my prefs directory
and removing those lines fixed them. (I then also fixed the colors so
I could tell dark and light green apart, and could tell orange from
dark brown.)

In article <u_Z_m.4$ZB...@newsfe13.iad>,
I can't seem to find it. Is there anywhere in particular you can direct me to?
I don't know what the various character codes represent.
Thanks much,
Zack.
