This is not a joke. This is not a drill. The creator has finally
released SOMETHING!

Awesome!
Thanks for telling this old news-group. Although inactive I believe many
(me included) still see if anything shows up :)

Whoo-hoo! Yay!
I wonder if this means 'affinity with polemarms' will finally be
fixed...

This is so upsetting! what am I going to do on april 1st now?????? I
actually was kicking myself this past april because I wasnt able to
get computer acess in time to post. love the new game though - its
going to be fun seeing it develop.
Duke Nukem Forever and JADE being released in the same year? Forget the
Mayan calendar, this is definitely a sign that the apocalypse is upon us.
I wonder if any of the ancients from the newsgroup still check in? I
would like to start it up. I would like to see a discussion of jade
content started somewhere. The forum seems awful mum on Jade
discussion.
granted there isnt much there to discuss, but I always liked the
newsgroup better than the fourm
Frances, Curry bucket, Mike 3, are any of you still out there?
I tried registering a few months ago (requiring many attempts at the
CAPTCHA...), and never got approved for posting.
Looks like my timing was bad:
http://www.adom.de/blog/2011/07/01/concerning-forum-registrations/
And here I thought maybe they just didn't like my explanation for "why do
you want to be here". :-)
I tried logging in again to see if anything changed, and it didn't recognize
my e-mail address (probably because the account had been dumped as described
in the above link). I reregistered (at least this time the CAPTCHA was
legible, and the off-putting "why do you want to be here" was replaced with
"favorite race/class combo"), but it still says I lack posting permission.
Not sure if there's a waiting period...
At least with Usenet each group doesn't need to come up with individual
spam-fighting methods.
"I always liked the newsgroup better than the forum" suggests that a link to
the forum isn't what he was looking for.

I'm still here, though I wasn't one of the more active newsgroup personalities
for a while before the end. I haven't actually played ADoM in at least a couple
of years, but I'm now following the development of JADE with some interest, now
that there's actually something to follow.
And I concur - newsgroups are far better than Web forums for basic discussion;
the only thing which can (in some cases) rival them are well-done mailing lists.

Hey, I recognize those names!

I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I'm still out here and I check in
on this newsgroup from time to time. Not that there's been much reason to
do so lately... :(
The forum is OK, but I miss some of the knock-down, drag-out conversations
we used to have here several years ago. I think it was a much freer
atmosphere here in the newsgroup than a web forum is likely to achieve.
Now that JADE is being actively developed (on version 0.1.4 as I type
this), maybe someone who knows what they're doing can create
rec.games.roguelike.jade! :)

While I do personally prefer newsgroups to Web fora for various reasons, I do
have to admit that there are downsides to that "free atmosphere"; for instance,
does anyone else remember the person who flooded this group for months on end
with daily paeans to the joys of boar semen?

That would indeed be a good thing. I haven't been trying out JADE yet (for lack
of time, among other things), though I have been reading the JADE blog; once I
do get around to it, if no one else has created the group yet I may see if I can
set the wheels in motion myself...
What is the point? JADE is perfectly relevant here. Especially because
there is little discussion involved.
I tried JADE and ... got cravings for ADOM. Last Monday I successfully
closed the chaos gate. It took me between six and eight years to win.
