I just finished working on the technical part of the planned monster
memory for ADOM 0.9.9 Gamma 7 (e.g. all the game-related data now is
memorized and can be displayed easily), but now I'm lacking actual
monster descriptions.
*If* you feel that you are willing and able to write short and
flavourful descriptions for monsters in the game, and if you'd like to
see your name on that account in the credits, please contact me at
r...@saranxis.ruhr.de. If you do that, I'll give you a list of 10
monster names (less with a minimum of 5, if you feel you don't have
enough time for 10, more if you proved before that you are a good
writer and ambitious worker ;-) for which you can write up
descriptions.
If you want to write some specific descriptions, feel free to make
your wishes known although I can't guarantee to honor them (maybe
someone else is faster).
Descriptions should be at most five sentences concentrating on the
looks and impressions one gets when looking at the specific monster.
Descriptions should not center too much on equipment (except for
standard stuff... e.g. the armor for chaos knights, etc.), since the
inclusion of monster inventories might invalidate such descriptions
(no, monster inventories are not yet in the game and they won't be
before 1.x.y).
I reserve the right to use the descriptions for whatever purposes I
like and I also reserve the right to refuse descriptions without
explanations if I don't feel that they fit into the game.
Basically I'm trying to save a lot of time and everything that will
cause me more work, will be ignored.
Descriptions should be submitted as simple ASCII text and preferrably
everythiong should be in one line (if your editior can do that).
Attachments would be preferred.
Ok, that's it. I'll go back to work on class powers :-)

I'd love to do some monster descriptions. It would be great
to be able to contribute to my favorite game...
Besides, I've got a AD&D "Big beastiary book" lying around
somewhere, might as well get some use out of it :-)

Hey, sounds cool. I'd love to help out. I've got the AD&D Monster
Manual, should come in handy.

Feraxiss the greater balor summons some help!
The Master Lich mumbles strange formula, everything seems so different!

Balors aren't incredibly tough(the tough ones on level 50 is very
experienced), they are just annoying, corrupting and summoning, like the
emperor lich(who drains stat instead of corrupting, very annoying too.),
and they teleport, oh darn it, just when I was about to deal the killing
blow.
They wield scourges and are fire resistant, so I assume that they closest
picture of a balor would be a balrog(ala. Lord of the Rings). You could
find some picture of a balrog somewhere on the net, I suppose.

[Having various books from other games is not particularly helpful, I'm
sure Thomas would rather have original materials]
> Can anyone find a balor???
A Balor is a sort of greater demon in ADOM, isn't it? Blackish-red skin,
tall, muscled, maybe some wings. Gawd knows.
> Or a chaos knight?(Or any other chaos creatures.)
A Chaos Knight is probably synonymous to a Death Knight, but I'd describe
any Chaos creature akin to some of the fractal patterns produced by "chaos
mathematics". Shifting shapes, blurred outlines..

I suggest that we not copy out of the books. Especially TSR's stuff.
Copyrights and such may get annoyingly enforced. I know Angband got
into the flame war from hell trying to deal with this issue, so it's a good
thing not to have any TSR copyrights that have to be taken out in the
first place.
Now looking at a picture as a suggestion, and then making your own
description. Ok, I suppse, since the only things that will be very
common will be monsters like kobolds, which existed before
TSR made them a monster.
But lets make it easy on ourselves and be carefull.
