I get a loud audio thump when first powering up my Corvette. The audio
is fine except for that. I don't hear this on any other SS pins of the
same era.

Any ideas?

Tom

Normal.

My Corvette does it too.

It does that and then the typical BING/BEEP upon booting.

An audio thump at power up is almost always because the power amp is
being turned on before or same time as the source. Audio gear thatnot
pinball often has a delay circuit built in to alleviate this problem.
Also, on a pinball you have no control of this since there are no
separate circuits to power up and the power amps are "integrated" into
the boards.

I don't have a schematic for Corvette so I can't really comment
specifics, however if the noise does bother you there are plenty of
delay/relay circuits that can be built to insert a relay to the speaker
so that comes on a second or few seconds after everything else does.
It's up to you if you feel the time trouble and expense is worth it.
I'd probably just live with it IMO.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought something was wrong with mine. I
guess instead it is just bad design. Like wayout said, you turn on the
audio power amp after the other circuits have initialized. I guess they
forgot to do that with Corvette.

Are there other pins that share this bug?

Pretty much all of them that have amps. The thump is harmless.

Thumps on start up...maybe you have a bad motor mount?

Most likely your digital volume chip (u3) has lost its mind. Could also be the D
flip-flops that feed it going bad.

Every single WPC & WPC-95 machine, and sys11 does this to a lesser degree as well.
GTB Sys 3 does also.
