how do you tell i know the first run was 2003?

If I remember correctly, they ran them in 2003, 2005 and 2008 so check
the manufacture date stamped on the back.

There was something on the playfield they changed in later runs. Some black line on homer's head i guess.

Look under the apron, you might find something there too.

well i am trying to find out what the problems were and the year they were present

Look at the game in person.

I have sen some TSPP with very vibrant playfields and others more muted. Some have better cabinet art than others too. Whether that is from wear/age or just how it was made, not sure.

First run had different siderails without the later "lollipop" style
flipper button guards.
