This all sounds like a newly aquired, older game. You should back up
the truck and analyze the game systematically, starting with overall
health of the power supply. Then the connectors from the supply, then
the solenoid board then the connectors to everything else.
It's fine to troubleshoot a singular problem when you have already had a
completely working game that has been gone over already. But if you
have not already done this it's wise to go over it inch by inch for
reliablity...you'll likely find a lot of potential problems that as
well.
On a Comet make sure to add fuses to the AC input side of the two
regulators to prevent the game from starting on fire. Search it on the
web, there's info out there on the specifics about this.
